The second single from her sixth studio album Positions, the song was already a fan favorite with its saucy lyrics to a sweet melody, and now, Meg and Doja’s rap verses add that extra bit of spice that has everyone gasping. It’s 2021, and we are so here for women proudly singing about their sexuality in the same way men do, and it’s safe to say that the collab is simply iconiqué and will go down in pop music history. If you’re wondering who they would be joining, we thought we’d share some other collabs that have made their mark on the pop world.
‘Telephone’ – Lady Gaga & Beyoncé
A little under 11 years ago, two pop giants Lady Gaga and Beyoncé joined forces for the hit ‘Telephone,’ a big banger of a bop which even had a mini-movie as a music video. It’s so iconic that it’s even made a return recently to TikTok, blessing the ears of a younger generation who may not remember the first release. Iconic.
‘Lady Marmalade’ – Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya & P!nk
We’ll be the first to admit it when this song came out; we proudly sang the French lyrics with zero clues of what they meant. But this was such an iconic collab that had everyone vibing along to it and had some serious girl power energy.
‘Ice Cream’ – BLACKPINK & Selena Gomez
Last year these five queens truly served us a song for the summer with this one. It’s a fun and playful track that introduced many pop queen fans to k-pop and proved to be big in the western world. We’re still vibing to it frequently and plan to do so for the foreseeable future.
‘Empire State of Mind’ – Jay Z & Alicia Keys
When you think of New York, this is probably one of the first songs that come to mind. This RnB smash truly is one that the majority of us can join in belting the lyrics at the top of our lungs of the chorus, and if you’re skilled, you can rap it, too. Definitely a song we’ve yet to be tired of.
‘Eastside’ – Benny Blanco, Halsey & Khalid
This trio has been participants in some fire collabs, but when they join forces, they have simply created something incredible. ‘Eastside’ goes hard and often finds itself on our themed playlists like for driving, summer, chilled vibes. It’s just so versatile. Truly iconic.
‘Old Town Road’ – Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus
Now could we create this list without ‘Old Town Road’? The GRAMMY award-winning song which went viral and still gets us hype AF is one of the collabs that will be remembered for decades to come. We salute you, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray… or shall we tip our cowboy hats?
‘What’s My Name?’ – Rihanna & Drake
Oh, the 2010s. What a time. No pandemic confining us to living restricted ways of life and the music was lit. Do y’all remember when wearing shirts of red-haired Rihanna and a pair of chinos was the height of fashion? And we were all vibing to this classic! We need a new RiRi album and wouldn’t be mad if Drake hopped on a song again for old time’s sake.
‘Baby’ – Justin Bieber and Ludacris
Baby Biebs. OMG. What a time. Fresh-faced Justin was new on the scene and was the height of teen pop, and birthed one of the biggest fandoms in history – the Beliebers. ‘Baby’ was a major hit, and if you could rap Ludacris’s verse then you were a bit of a legend amongst your friends.
‘Airplanes’ – Hayley Williams & B.o.B
Hoo boy, do we wish airplanes were shooting stars right now. But this song is one we’d add to the soundtrack of our adolescence. Hopeless and misunderstood teens, we were always captioning our photos with these lyrics.
‘Señorita’ – Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello
The Shawmila collab that we are still not over! Señorita became such an anthem in 2019 and is the theme of Shawn and Camila‘s relationship. It truly has us feeling the lust and passion of relationships, even if our love interest is just our fave singer or a fictional character. Sigh.
‘Under Pressure’ – Queen & David Bowie
Throwing it back to our parents’ youth, this song by some real rock legends is living proof that iconic collabs will live on forever. It’s passed through the generations and still goes off! In fact, it’s set the bar high for artists working together on songs and we will always compare those collabs to the legend status of this song.
‘OMG’ – Usher & will.i.am
This is one that got requested at clubs and parties on the regular and we are still willing to bust some moves to it even today. It’s such a party vibe, and you can try to fight the urge to not bop to it, but you will pretty much be guaranteed to fail.
‘Bang Bang’ – Ariana Grande, Jessie J & Nicki Minaj
Of course, this isn’t the first of Ariana’s iconic collabs because ‘Bang Bang’ was like a cultural reset in the mid-2010s. These three queens coming together to create such a big banger (pun not intended, but we like the outcome) was honestly peak pop culture back then, and we’re still living for it.
‘State of Shock’ – Michael Jackson & Mick Jagger
Another golden oldie passed on from our parents’ generation is when Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson (or MJ squared as we are now calling them) united on this smash. Two iconic legends in history just vibing together and making music that is still much loved to this day. We stan.
‘WAP’ – Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion
‘WAP’ may be less than a year old but let’s be honest; she is one iconic collab that will for sure be going down in history. From viral dances to getting innocent minds to ponder over the meaning of the acronym when listening to the somewhat non-explicit version, she has made her mark and will always be remembered.
‘One Sweet Day’ – Boyz II Men & Mariah Carey
One for the 90s kids to remember! Queen Mariah Carey hopped on a track with Boyz II Men back in 1990 on ‘One Sweet Day’ to deliver this dreamy single that gives us those nostalgic feels.
‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ – ZAYN & Taylor Swift
For the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, Zayn and Taylor came together to create this utter masterpiece full of lust, passion, and hella falsettos which still give us goosebumps. A staple to any playlist about your crush or significant other.
Welcome to the club, Ariana, Doja, and Megan! We know you’ll fit in well with these iconic collabs.
