Tiny Ukulele, Tiny Desk, mxmtoon, and Her Dream

Tiny Ukulele, Tiny Desk, mxmtoon, and Her Dream

There’s no doubt in the hearts that we would love to be a girl with a ukulele and a dream. However, we all became music journalists at The Honey Pop. mxmtoon, however, became that girl. A couple of days ago, one of our favorite lofi-pop artists, mxmtoon debuted on NPR’s Tiny Desk. What started with a tiny ukulele in her Oakland, California bedroom led her way to Tiny Desk.

mxmtoon: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert

While performing at NPR’s Tiny Desk, mxmtoon sang a multitude of songs from her debut album the masquerade in addition to her dawn and dusk EPs. Of course, it wouldn’t be a mxmtoon performance if she didn’t include songs from the EP that started her off in the first place, so selections from plum blossom also were played. For the most part, we ultimately got lost in the soothing vocals that are her voice. We couldn’t help but be drawn to how smooth her voice is.

Of course, fans weren’t the only ones in love with the performance, NPR was as well.

“Her melodies are simple, with the words up front mighty and personal… It’s a model for what mxmtoon does so well: humble, honest songs, sung here behind a massive desk.”

Did you guys also catch the spin on Tiny Desk that mxmtoon did? Despite being on Tiny Desk, she found a place to shoot the performance with the biggest desk she could find. Keeping it close to home, she found the location a couple of miles away from her apartment in NYC.

You can stream mxmtoon and her beautiful discography here.
