Katy Perry Electrifies With Pokémon And UMG

We know what you’re all thinking…It’s been 25 years since Pokémon was released? Well, yes! The anime franchise first launched in 1996 in Japan and soon became the international hit that it is today. To celebrate the 25 years of international success, Pokémon is partnering with Universal Music Group (UMG) to launch a massive music program throughout the new year. The best thing about it? Our girl Kay Perry is headlining the huge Pokémon collaboration!

UMGB’s general manager LG Gutierrez shared some positive words about the huge cross-industry collaboration, “We are honored to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pokémon and the significant cultural impact this beloved franchise continues to have around the world. Working together, we have developed dynamic year-round programming involving artists from across UMG’s labels — because what better way to create a global celebration than through the power of music.”

The massive music collaboration would be activated across all of the franchise’s portfolios which includes video games, mobile apps, animation, merchandise, and more. It kicked off with a live-action video that recapped the amazing last 25 years that Pokémon has had all over the world.

Compelled yet? Good, since this is only the start of it all! Throughout the year Pokémon will be working with UMG and their roster to launch the program which will be called P25 Music. Of course, the artists aren’t known yet but it’ll include rising and award-winning global superstars to join in on the fun. The line-up of all the stars that will participate within this year-long activation will be released periodically throughout the year. We’re looking forward to the exciting and unique new collaboration. You can stay updated with the program here.

When talking about the new role in her career, Katy Perry gushed about it all. “It is an honor to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world,” she says. We can only imagine how thrilled she is. Imagine being chosen by the executives of the Pokémon franchise to be a headliner? Wow. Just, wow.

Colin Palmer, the vice president of marketing at The Pokémon Company International had some good words to say about Katy Perry herself. “Katy is a wonderful ambassador to help us celebrate 25 years of Pokémon, and we can’t wait for music fans everywhere to experience the exciting collaborations we have planned,” he said.

Being lovers who grew up with the anime franchise in addition to being music consumers, we’re compelled by the collaboration. Who would’ve thought that we would see a cross-industry, cross-country collaboration with UMG and Pokémon? We’re so excited to see the year-long collaboration and hope we’ll see more soon.

[…] Katy Perry has become one of the main pop girls. She’s a megastar and sells out arenas constantly. Her debut album One Of The Boys set the course perfectly for her long-lasting career in pop music. The album included smash hits like ‘I Kissed A Girl’ and ‘Hot N Cold.’ Those two songs are still celebrated as pop excellence and still some of her most popular hits. Everyone knows ‘I Kissed A Girl’ is a staple. We wouldn’t have albums like Teenage Dream which is highly reserved as one of the best pop albums of all time if Katy’s… Read more »
