No, we are not trying to take you back to the early 2000s and reminisce on the Nickelodeon classic Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Yes, we did watch it however and yes, we were obsessed. The show’s star Devon Werkheiser is still thankfully in the industry and is making some incredible music we wanted to share with you guys!
Earlier this month Devon released Phase and it has been on repeat ever since! His voice is so soothing and we could listen to him sing all day. This song is very much so a song we could see ourselves listening to while taking a long drive with the windows down. It just makes sense.
The lyrical context of this song is just incredible. Devon talks about how he wrote this right about a breakup and that makes perfect sense. Phasing in and out of emotions during a breakup is something that so many of us can relate to. It’s natural to feel things in waves and Devon describes that so eloquently in Phase.
In a video posted to Devon’s Twitter, he talks about how he was on tour with Seal, and the first night of tour his grandmother died. He goes on to explain that he wrote songs like Phase to make sense of his life while dealing with both the loss of life and of a relationship. He refers to this song as an invitation to lean into the changes your life brings, we think that is a perfect description.
We can’t wait to see what Devon does next! With his beautiful voice and the way, he writes from the heart there’s sure to be a bright future ahead.
