VanJess Stuns With New EP Homegrown

If you have yet to hear of the sister duo VanJess, get ready to be blown away! Following the release of their highly-anticipated EP Homegrown, Nigerian-American sisters Ivana and Jessica Nwokike have already made headlines, reaching the top ten U.S. album debuts on Spotify, therefore, fastening their influence in the new sounds of R&B. VanJess soared among some of our, The Honey POP‘s, favorite artists including Foo Fighters, Hayley Williams, and Pooh Shiesty — to name a few. Check out who else made the ranks here!

Dubbed a “collection of sensual R&B” tracks by Apple MusicHomegrown released on Friday, February 5th by Keep Cool/RCA Records. Following their debut album from 2018, Silk Canvas, the nine-song collection shines brightly on what they do best. Filled with throwback 90s melodies and sultry vocals, the EP continues to receive critical acclaim, emphasizing its “unique soul/funk” by The FADER and its “fire” power by Entertainment Weekly. If you’ve been listening to their EP non-stop since it was released, you can feel the 90s influences etched in each track. Artists such as Brandy, SWV, and Jodeci have been an inspiration for VanJess, their music, and why they became musicians.

If you have yet to listen to Homegrown, do yourself a favor and listen to this brilliant EP! A few of our favorite songs include ‘Come Over,’ a feel-good R&B jam perfect for Valentine’s Day, and ‘Slow Down,’ a slower track, as the title implies. VanJess and their sultry vocals sing about coming over, wasting no time, yet taking it slow. We see you, VanJess! Ultimately, the EP has become one of our favorites, and we hope you love it too. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
