Beauty and the Beast (2017)

This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. It’s a tale as old as time, reimagined. We truly didn’t think Beauty and the Beast could become more of a comfort movie … but then it did. Every song was perfectly executed, especially anything Emma Watson lent her voice to. She was such a force in this film and embodied a Disney princess to a tee. Everything that was magical in the classic film was made even more magical in this remake. The scenery was otherworldly, the casting was perfect, and we couldn’t have asked for more.

The Jungle Book (2016)

The original Jungle Book was such a comfort movie for so many of us. It had every element kids love in a movie. Then as we grew up they made a version of this film that appeals to a whole new magical side of us. Nothing is lost, all of the heart in the original remains in the live-action. The musical number to ‘Bare Necessities’ is still the highest point of the film. It radiates comfort and childlike, unadulterated joy.

Dumbo (2019)

Maybe we’ve overused the word magic here, but when talking about Disney, there is no such thing as overusing magic. The fact is the live-action version of Dumbo is the closest thing we have to real magic. The film is one of the best movies put out in the last 5 years. We stand by that. The cast is stellar, from Danny DeVito to Michael Keaton, it’s easy to tell it was meant for greatness.

Christopher Robin (2018)

If there is anything that can unlock the childlike wonder that is within us it’s the stories of Winnie The Pooh. The movie feels like a giant, warm hug. It’s familiar, yet brand-new, and brings the magic of our childhoods right into the real world. Just hearing Pooh’s voice brings the biggest smile to our faces. This live-action movie is a beautiful tale of Christopher finding himself and finding his way back to what truly matters.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)

Angelina Jolie can do no wrong. She embodied this role, as did Elle Fanning as Aurora. The movie is beautifully shot, and we’ve never wanted to travel to fairy-tale land so badly than the woods in this film. It’s a fairy, cottage core dream. We saw this movie in theaters multiple times and we aren’t sorry. Movies rarely get it this right.

Alice In Wonderland (2010)

Directed by legend Tim Burton, this is the blueprint for Disney live-action remakes. It set the bar unbelievably high. The cast is beyond A-list, from Johnny Depp to Anne Hathaway to the late great Alan Rickman: just pure gold. And the cinematography? Unreal. They had us ready to move to Wonderland and live like Alice. This movie has stood the test of time and is still such a comfort to so many. It’s a darker remake thanks to Tim Burton, but magical nonetheless.

Aladdin (2019)

Filling Robin Williams’ shoes is no easy task, but we knew Will Smith was the only person that could possibly do it. And he brought the house down. The ‘Friend Like Me’ number was out of this world. The live-action movie kept all the magic the original had, especially with ‘A Whole New World’. The casting for Aladdin and Jasmine was perfect. This is an unparalleled Disney classic. It means so much to so many people including us, and we are so glad it was done justice.

The Lion King (2019)

This is the live-action remake we were most nervous about. Messing up this movie would have been a hard blow. Luckily for us, Disney managed to make a film that met every expectation. It was magical. It was moving. And it didn’t lack in any department. The songs are still being played by us today. The voice casting was beyond our wildest dreams. Come on, they got Beyonce!
