We’re Losing Our Minds Over Loki

Please tell us we’re not the only ones freaking out with all the Marvel content this year. Starting with the wonderful WandaVision, and currently, with The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, every Marvel fan is having the time of their life. And later this year we’re checking back in with our favorite God of Mischief. Yes, people, Loki is back! Well, a version of him is, at least. But we’ll get there. So without further ado, here’s what we know so far about this show and why we’re all losing it well before it comes out on June 11.

Before we get to it, this is your spoiler warning for pretty much anything involving Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but especially Avengers and Avengers: Endgame.

So Endgame happened, how is Loki here?

You’re right, Endgame happened, and it changed a lot of things. One of which is that a version of Loki escaped from custody (with the Tesseract) after the Battle of New York in 2012, creating a new alternate timeline where he was never sent to prison in Asgard as we see in Thor: The Dark World. And that’s the version of him we’re seeing in Loki. This also means that this is a Loki who did not go through most of the character’s development we see after New York.

Ok, but what exactly is going on in the show?

Since Loki is not supposed to be, you know, alive, he ends up attracting the attention of the TVA. Who? Well, the TVA stands for Time Variance Authority. They’re the Marvel Universe’s time police. And when they pick up on Loki’s existence when they know he’s not supposed to be there, they arrest him (as shown in the poster below).

Is that it?

This is Marvel- of course, it’s not. It looks a lot like Loki will not just be a TVA prisoner, but a recruit of some sort. In a “you want to clean your record and have your freedom? Help us and you’ll get that” kind of way. Based on the trailers, it looks like Loki takes the offer. And because we’re talking about time cops, this also means time travel is back in the MCU! And one more thing: the trailers also showed some interesting shots of Loki being involved in some real-world conspiracies, like the D.B. Cooper case, for example. How awesome is that going to be?

Who else is part of the cast?

Legends. Absolute legends are also part of the cast. Joining the great Tom Hiddleston on Loki, are Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, Richard E. Grant, Erika Coleman, and Isabelle Fretheim. And those are just the confirmed names, who knows, we might get a cameo from someone else in the Marvel Universe, and we just don’t know it yet.

And so far, that’s what we have about Loki, but we’ll be back as soon as new information comes around. So, are you as hyped as we are about Marvel’s Disney+ shows? Tell us in the comments, or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP!
