Welcome to Fanlanthropy – a new series here at The Honey POP where we shine a light on incredible stans who are using the power of fandom to do good in the world and help out important causes. Fandoms are super powerful in sharing information and working on projects, so using those impressive skills for a good cause ends in some great results.
Healthcare is something that is a fundamental human right, but now more than ever, it is under strain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that more funds are needed to help keep the industry afloat, and projects and non-profit organizations are working even harder to try and offer support. GOT7Hospital is a fan project by Thai Ahgase which fundraises for various medical-related projects in Thailand. We spoke to the organizers of the ongoing project to learn more and discuss their latest fundraiser.
Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello, we are a group of GOT7’s fan club from Thailand, IGOT7 Thailand.
You are a fan project that donates to hospital-based organizations and charities in honor of GOT7. What was it that inspired you to create GOT7 Hospital?
I must say that we are only a small group out of all of the Thai ahgase. Every year there are many special charity projects taking place at different times. Whether it is donations, public welfares, donate money to aid foundation or donate blood for emergency use. As for us, GOT7Hospital, we started from the idea of wanting to make a donation in a way that benefits many people. We, therefore, choose to make a donation to the hospital by donating to support the purchase of medical equipment for a hospital so that these things will help many others in the future. In addition, the team thought that when choosing to do it, it should be something that we can come back and see in the future. The project’s goal is to be able to engrave names on the donor nameplate and use the words GOT7 & IGOT7Thailand so in the days ahead, Ahgase who joined the project can come through, see and be proud that we were once one of these things.
In honor of GOT7’s 7th year, you’ve chosen to support the creation of the Academic Center of Geriatic Medicine – what made you choose this particular cause?
Selecting the Academic Center for Geriatric Medicine, the team viewed that the elderly are the age range that has been increasing every year. They are people who need more attention and disease in the elderly is very complex and always evolving according to the current global environment. Everyone has to enter that age. The project team sees that geriatric medicine can still be developed and is absolutely necessary in the future. We then, therefore, are interested in donating funds to build this medical center.
What can you tell us about the Academic Center of Geriatric Medicine?
The Academic Center for Geriatric Medicine is a place to enhance knowledge allocated for doctors, nurses and medical personnel to further study and become an expert in caring for the elderly as well as training of home physicians. They also extend the field of geriatric medicine in the country the most and also are prepared to take care of Thai people in the aging society by providing outpatient and inpatient services as well as organizing activities and promoting physical and mental health of the elderly. Along with the research center, rehabilitation center is the center for geriatric medicine and is training for medical personnel, patients, carers and the general public.
GOT7 have been known to get involved with philanthropy and charity work. How do they inspire you?
Of course, in every fandom project, they must have their own artist as inspirations. Our projects are the same. It was from how we saw GOT7 donate to help with many projects, both individually and as a group, both publicly spoken and anonymous. This makes us think that being a giver is always happy. Helping our fellow human beings, even just a little bit can make the society a better place. Being a GOT7 fan, we gained a lot of positive energy, happiness, pride and healing power. On the day when we were upset, there was still a sound of their song. It’s something that helps us feel like it’s okay and tomorrow will get better. We will always have them, the bond between GOT7 and IGOT7 is like a supportive friend and is always ready to be side by side The line between artists and fans is very thin. This makes us want to thank them and do good things on their behalf for the general public to appreciate. It is a publicity and expansion of the fan base in another way.
We know how powerful fandoms are, what do you think about fandoms and the importance of using their platforms for vital causes such as this one?
We see it as a very good thing when we like the same things. When there is a point that is our main and center point, we will begin to think and start doing something to achieve our goals. For example, in various fandoms, they have their favorite artists. The aim is to make use of the fandom as well as helping out to promote the artist’s reputation to be of interest to the public. It also creates a good feeling for the general public when shown the power and ability of the fans who are ready to support their artists.
How can people support your fundraiser?
In the part of donating to help fund the purchase of medical equipment with the first project, we have ended project and made a donation as well as having a carved small nameplate in the hallway as honor as said the first few details. As for the current project, the donation for the project is open until March 31st. International fans, if interested, can contact us and join to help donate. This can be via DM on Twitter @got7hospital. The project team will have an admin who will take care of answering questions from International fans that are interested in participating in the project.
Thanks, guys! We know GOT7 would be so proud!
