Star Wars fans just keep winning this year. After the production announcement for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Disney also released a new trailer for another show taking place a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be released on Disney+ on May the 4. Appropriate, don’t you think? Episode 1 will be 70 minutes long, and after that, new episodes will be coming every Friday.
Like other Star Wars series before, The Bad Batch will be filling in some gaps left in between Episodes 3 and 4 of the Star Wars movies. Set right after the Clone Wars, this show will follow the so-called “bad batch” of clones (Clone Force 99), named that because, unlike other clones, these guys have mutations that make them different from each other. And they also have a problem with following orders, which should not happen to the clones.
There’s just so much going on in this trailer! First of all, the trailer opened with Grand Moff Tarkin talking about Clone Force 99 being stronger than an army but having a concerning level of disobedience. This sounds like he doesn’t trust them but is still willing to keep them around because of how strong they are. Most likely, that’s not going to last long. And we can’t wait to see his face when that happens.
Then, the action sequences rolled in, and OMG, those look awesome. And fitting, since this is right after the Clone Wars, as the Republic turns into the Empire. This particular setting opens the door for, maybe, a few interesting possibilities. At this point, there are still rebels out in the galaxy, and the chance of The Bad Batch running into them is pretty high.
And one more question we have after this trailer: what’s with the kid? According to subtitles, their name is Omega, and they know who Clone Force 99 is. They can even name all the members of the Bad Batch: Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker, and Crosshair. Who is this child, and how do they know so much? Hopefully, we’ll find out, since they’re joining the Bad Batch. Judging by the accent, it would appear that Omega is one of the clones, but nothing is clear in the trailer. We’ll just have to wait and see.
