Does anyone love the smell (and sound) of new music? We do! And in case you missed it, we also love to discover music from everywhere, so the global collab ‘Drown In Me’ really made our day.
The Song Sounds Like Every Single One Of The Artists In It
The beat, the lyrics in English and Spanish, everything in this song reminds us that this song was made by people from all over the world, who make very different styles of music. But they work so well together! Swedish producer Discrete, Canadian singer Kiesza, Icelandic singer/songwriter Ouse, and Colombian artist/actor Dylan Fuentes all together in one song- pretty great, isn’t it?
A really fun thing about ‘Drown In Me’ is how the melody seems to slightly change to fit the styles of each artist involved. For example, the dance-pop Discrete is known for is present throughout the song, but it’s clear that Dylan Fuentes’ verse had some very Latin vibes to it. Meanwhile, Kiesza’s part is softer and highlights her voice.
It’s safe to say we’ve been dancing around the THP HQ for a while now to this song.
And to think this beautiful group of artists is also giving us a music video! Seriously, this has been too perfect, but now shall we talk a little more about the song?
This has been in the works for how long?
The song was originally written by Discrete back in 2019 (oh how we miss those times). But it was only finalized and recorded during the crazy times of lockdown. Oh, and one more interesting thing: because travel isn’t really a thing right now, each artist worked on the song from their homes- never once meeting in person. However, we do want to meet and sing a live version of ‘Drown In Me’ whenever that’s possible.
Let’s Talk Lyrics
Where do we even start? This song is just so good! And we’re not sure why, but this one hits different. It may be because it’s people from very different places singing about something that will be true anywhere: relationships are complicated. And everyone is bound to hit some rough spots sometimes.
It’s like each singer is singing from experience in their verses, about the struggles they’ve each faced in their relationships. Maybe that’s what makes this track all the more personal. And one of the best we’ve heard about the subject, to be honest.
