Taking advantage of the past year of isolation, Nathan Williams bounced back to San Diego, writing what would become his seventh album as Wavves, Hideaway.
Venturing back to his humble home that is a small shed behind his parents, he found himself making music in the same space he created some of his earliest albums. The return was symbolic of sorts as he used it as a pathway back to his continuous creativity. One full of wonderous writing, emotion-evoking songs, using a reflection and connection of being your own worst enemy. One where even through all the struggles, it will all be copacetic. This album is the outcome of handfuls of significant life changes, and we imagine for us, it will also be life-changing.
Releasing King of the Beach via indie label Fat Possum almost a decade ago, we’ve been fans in the making for quite some time. A confident collection of some of the more prominent pop-punk jams, he took off into the airwaves and made his mark morosely on the scene.
Wavves – ‘Green Eyes’
Hideaway will drop on July 16th via Fat Possum Records. The nine-track album was produced by Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio. The record tells a tale of what happens when you’re finally old enough to take in the world around you and when no one is there to save you, but yourself.
Chatting about the album Nathan Williams says, “It’s real peaks and valleys with me,” […] “I can be super optimistic, and I can feel really good, and then I can hit a skid, and it’s like an earthquake hits my life, and everything just falls apart. Some of it is my own doing, of course.”
Finding maturity in both life and record-making is what Hideaway is all about. The album will hold the most critical, complex songs to date, including the previously released ‘Sinking Feeling,’ which landed #1 on the SubModern Specialty Singles Chart and #2 most-added song at NACC. Most recently, we’re jamming out to the latest single, ‘Help Is On The Way.’
Wavves – ‘Help Is On The Way’
The song shows up with an absolute groove of generous guitars. Allowing you to fall into everything brilliant about the band. Lyrically relatable, fans find themselves drifting out to sea and succumbing to the Wavves.
Be sure to stay tuned in to THP as we’ll be sure to share everything excellent coming from Hideaway. In the meantime, though, we’d love to hear what you think of the latest single, so comment down below or drop us a line on Twitter @TheHoneyPop!
