Daya has been a solid part of our playlists for such a long time now! She’s well earned her status right up there with the best of them making genuinely good pop music! We are so bummed when she took a break from music for a while, but judging how incredible her music was afterward, we can see it rejuvenated her!
Her newest EP, The Difference, is out now, and let us be the first to tell you it’s going to be an instant favorite! It’s a compilation of 6 songs, and each holds such a necessary place. It feels like such a cohesive body of work!
We’re going to get into each track in just a moment but first, be sure to stream along with us here!
We all remember our ‘First Time,’ for better or worse.
In this track, Daya talks about chasing that high you get during the ‘First Time.’ That lust-filled, adrenaline-filled time when that’s the only place in the world you’d want to be. The lyric that just wraps the whole song into one line is “I know things are changing, but I wanna save this.” She just wants to really capture all the feelings of the ‘First Time’ and relive it over and over. This is such a fun, sensual track and is getting added to the bedroom playlist ASAP.
We know her. We love her! ‘Bad Girl’ has been on repeat for us since its February release truly! The energy that Daya has in this track is just unmatched. We’re constantly using this track as a hype track before a night out, making it clear to ourselves and anyone else who is listening that we are fine and know it.
We couldn’t recommend ‘Bad Girl’ as a pre-game song enough. You will feel like you can walk into any bar and get drinks bought for you, and you will indeed have a night you won’t remember.
This track is a tale of not knowing what you have until it’s gone. Daya is doing a lot of reminiscing about all the ways she went wrong in this relationship with the person she’s now missing enough to write a song about. We’ve all been in this situation where we’re the problem in our relationship and forced to face the music.
The lyrics in this track paint a clear picture. You can almost hear the anger Daya has in her voice while singing about a love lost. This is our favorite on the EP so far.
We’ve all been where Daya is on this track. Hopelessly in love where you feel like if you lost that person, you’d lose yourself too. It’s a scary but also exciting place to be. The song describes how all of this feels quite beautifully. This love feels a bit toxic and dependant, but hey, it happens to the best of us. Luckily, Daya happens to be this incredible singer-songwriter, so she can make this gorgeous art when it happens to her.
We’ve already gushed to you guys all about how much we love ‘Montana.’ It offers the perfect escape. All we want to do is escape with the person we love to the wide-open spaces. Sadly we’re stuck here, but at least we can root Daya on as she lives out this dream sequence!
The track itself truly shows what an incredible songwriter Daya is. She’s one of the absolute best in the business when it comes to how well she can paint a picture with her words.
‘Bad Girl (JVKE Remix)
This just takes ‘Bad Girl’ to a whole other level! It’s always a risk with a remix of ruining something so good, but this completely elevated the track! We are happy we have a new party song added to all of our playlists after this!
