Our alt-pop queen bee is back with a killer new single to kick off her next era. ‘Queen Bee’ by Lauren Sanderson has arrived and it’s everything!
Released on May 14, the song is the perfect blend of rock, pop, and R&B influence. The chorus is raw and imperfect in an ideal way. It makes you want to scream along as you drive down the highway with all the windows down. It’s a 180 from her last 2021 release, ‘Hi,’ which was a low-key, dreamy jam. ‘Hi’ was for sunsets and light breezes and contemplating life, but ‘Queen Bee’ is a song that’s meant to be drenched in sunlight and sung until your throat hurts. It’s equal parts sweet like honey and biting, with lyrics like “I think I’d like it if you sting me/and now we’re crawling to my backseat/you taste like honey when you kiss me.”
Paired with the laidback music video, the vibes are perfect for that summer fling that’s not going to last. As Lauren says, “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but not everyone and everything deserves your time & energy.” It sums up the push and pulls between wanting someone who’s not that interested and wanting to have fun at the same time. It’s that sting that you suffer through anyway, like a tattoo or ripping off a bandaid.
Lauren is our favorite Midwest queen, and we’re proud to be among the ranks of her dedicated fans. She’s one of those artists with an authentic, genuine connection to her fans. “I see myself as a channel,” Sanderson declares. “When people feel my energy or hear my lyrics, I want them to feel empowered and use that inspiration to create the life they want to live. To see someone who came from self-belief and know they can do the exact same for themselves. That’s all I really want.”
