This Is Pop Is The Perfect Documentary For Music Nerds Like Us

If you’re a fan of pop music and also have a passion for history, let us tell ya, June will be a good month for you! We have the name of Netflix’s next big binge-worthy production. And it’s all about the fascinating history of pop as a genre. This is Pop will drop on Netflix on June 22, courtesy of Banger Films. You know that annoying person we all know who acts “superior” for not liking pop music? This is the documentary you’ll want to tell them to watch.

The eight-part series will walk viewers through seven decades of pop history, including interviews from artists who helped shape each era and still influence many artists to this day. From ABBA’s Benny Andersson to Hozier, many untold stories come to light and, as they do, we get to see just how much of an impact pop had in the world.

Is that all? Nope. Just like pop music talks about many important issues, so will this documentary. After all, you can’t cover 70 years of music without talking about how much the industry has changed. For example, “The Boyz II Men Effect” will present discussions about race and cultural appropriation.

We have to give a shout-out to Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen, who executive produced the series, and to Amanda Burt, who is the series producer. These guys have truly done a stellar job. And please keep making more content on music history, we all love that.
