In celebration of National Streaming Day, Disney and Pixar have released a fun new featurette showcasing how one friend can change your life forever — a key theme in the upcoming animated movie, Luca.
We’ve already covered the trailer, but just in case you missed it, here are the basics. Luca is a coming-of-age story about a young sea monster experiencing an unforgettable summer upon the human world for the first time. Luca shares adventures filled with gelato, pasta, and endless scooter rides with his newfound best friends, Alberto and Giulia, a human girl. All the fun is threatened when Luca and Alberto’s secret is almost exposed. After all, they are sea monsters from another world.
The featurette dives deeply into that magical childhood experience of finding friends who push you out of your comfort zone. Director Enrico Casarosa and members of the voice cast including Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, and Maya Rudolph, share thoughts about the film and stories about their own childhood friends. They ruminate on the role of these kinds of friendships in helping you find yourself, and their importance in shaping you into who you’re meant to be.
“I wonder if I would have had the courage to go and chase my career in animation had I not met my best friend,” says Enrico Casarosa, the director of Luca. Fun fact: Enrico’s best friend is actually also named Alberto, the namesake of Luca’s friend, (you guessed it) Alberto, in the film.
You can watch the featurette right here:
The cast hopes Luca will be reminiscent of childhood memories and summer fun to all the adults who watch it and encourage kids to explore the world with curiosity and confidence.
Luca will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ come June 18th so have your water wings at the ready.
