Let’s look back into the distant year of 2008. Disney Channel is at its best moment, Instagram wasn’t a thing yet, and the very first Marvel movie, Iron Man, is hitting theatres and making us all fall in love with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Cut to 13 years later and that movie expanded into what is now known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU.
And with the MCU, came new stories and characters we could have never imagined we’d see on our screens. I mean, Loki got a series all for himself! There was no way we could see that coming all those years ago. And, as we get new characters, we get new actors playing those characters, and some of them were big surprises for us. Here’s a list of our personal faves.
Kicking off the list, we have the man playing opposite Tom Hiddleston in Loki. There was no way we could’ve guessed that Owen Wilson, the man we knew from Night At The Museum, and Marley & I would be in the MCU. But man, we are glad that he is. Truly, the perfect choice to be on screen with the God of Mischief, we mean Tom Hiddleston.
Another huge surprise for us, Marvel fans, was the confirmation of Angelina Jolie in the cast of The Eternals, set to release in November this year. We lost it at the news because who knew this could ever happen?
Joining Wanda, Vision, Sam, Bucky, and Loki, another Marvel character set to get a show on Disney+ is the Moon Knight. And the man behind the new character? Oscar Isaac. Isaac is a man known quite well for his work in this type of movie, from playing Poe Dameron in Star Wars to the villain Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse. And next year, he joins the MCU officially as Moon Knight.
The long-awaited Black Widow movie will finally be released this year and brings the beloved Stranger Things actor, David Harbour, as the Red Guardian. Just for its cast, we’re sure the movie will be worth the wait.
If you’re not excited to see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it’s because you haven’t watched this trailer yet. And when we saw Simu Liu would be playing the lead role, we were even more hyped than ever! Can September please hurry up?
So, it’s safe to say the next two years of the MCU will be marvelous if the cast has anything to say about it. What movie/series are you most hyped for? Tell us in the comments or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP!
