Welcome, dear honeybees, to our first-ever edition of Binge-Worthy Buzz! We’re pretty sure you’ve noticed by now we’re huge fans of movies and TV shows. It was only a matter of time until we had a weekly column about it, really. Each Wednesday we’ll bring you a list of the best new releases for your viewing pleasure. Let’s dive in, shall we?
The Mysterious Benedict Society
Starting strong for mystery lovers, we bring you the two-episode premiere of The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney+ this Friday, June 25. The show will follow four gifted orphans recruited by the mysterious Mr. Benedict to save the world from a global crisis. The quartet of little geniuses, Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance, infiltrate the L.I.V.E. Institute to investigate the crisis and find out the headmaster, Dr. Curtain, is behind the whole thing. Now, it’s up to them to stop the man before things get any worse.
Yay! Pixar’s newest feel-good movie is finally available on Disney+! It’s been out for a few days now, and this is our “older sibling giving advice” moment, where we tell you that if you haven’t watched it yet, you definitely should. The story of two sea monsters (Luca and Alberto) becoming friends with a human girl (Giulia) is heart-warming and the perfect choice for family movie night. And while we’re here, check out the trailer and some pictures from the Luca premiere on June 17.
Did you really expect us to make this list without mentioning the one show we get hyped for every Wednesday? Really? The third episode came out only a few hours ago and the gears in our heads are already spinning trying to make sense of the whole thing (we’re sure Loki himself would be proud to see this).
K-drama lovers, this one is for you. The story follows Park Jae Uhn, a flirty guy who won’t allow himself to develop feelings for anyone, and Yoo Na Bi, an adorable girl who no longer trusts love after a bad experience, as they meet and, of course, have an inexplicable effect on each other. Our rom-com loving hearts are thriving! Nevertheless‘s first episode dropped on Netflix this Saturday, June 19, and the rest of the ten episodes for this season will be coming every Saturday after that. Catch us sitting down for those 70 minutes every single week!
Elite Season 4
The fourth season of the fan-favorite Spanish series Elite came out a few days ago, and we strongly recommend this show for many reasons. One: the Spanish language is so awesome to listen to, we could listen to these characters speak for ages! Two: the constant mystery feeling of each of the four seasons really grabs our attention and doesn’t let it go until the last minute. Season 1 came out in 2018 and was about three friends who get scholarships to one of the fanciest private schools in Spain, which leads to a lot of tension between them and the rich kids. And, if that weren’t enough, there’s also a murder in the mix. A must-watch for any murder mystery fan.
Cidade Invisível (Invisible City)
Closing our list is one last non-English speaking show everyone should be paying more attention to the Brazilian production Cidade Invisível, or Invisible City. The first season premiered on Netflix earlier this year and recently a second one has been announced, so this is a great time to watch the first one if you haven’t already. Season 1 follows Eric, a skeptical detective who finds himself investigating how a pink boto, an animal from the Amazon, ended up in Rio; that is … until the boto turns into a human body and Eric finds out the situation is a lot more complicated than it seems. The show revolves around Eric discovering that all the folklore creatures he heard about as a child are very much real, and living in his world, just out of sight.
