Dear Olivia Rodrigo, We Love ‘The Rose Song’

Dear Olivia Rodrigo, We Love ‘The Rose Song’

🛑 DISCLAIMER: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM SEASON ONE + TWO OF HSMTMTS 🛑

Olivia Rodrigo has managed to put us in our feels yet again. Whether you know her from her new album Sour, or as her role as Nini on the show Highschool Musical: The Musical: The Series, you know that Olivia is talented in all that she does. This girl is unstoppable, and we love everything she puts out.

In Season 2 of HSMTMTS, Olivia’s character Nini is facing a lot of different paths. After getting back together with Ricky, played by Joshua Bassett, Nini finds out she is accepted into an acting observatory and decides to go. When she gets there, she realizes it isn’t what she wants anymore and returns home to Salt Lake.

Now she is faced with the dilemma of who she wants to be, yet again. To help paint that picture, Olivia wrote ‘The Rose Song’ for her character to sing. You’ve got to let us tell you about it!

Obviously, we are obsessed with Olivia and who wouldn’t be? Every song she makes has such power, and this one is no different. Everything about the lyrics, the composition, and the voice is beautiful. She manages to set the bar so high yet hits it with every single song.

Even though ‘The Rose Song’ isn’t on Sour, it definitely could be. It just continues to prove our point that Olivia makes music from her heart, and it’s one of the things we love the most about her. She has a technique that is so unique to her, and it’s why she fits in with the greats like Taylor and Conan.

Let’s talk about why this song deserves to top the charts.

The Lyrics Are Top Tier

The lyrics keep us up at night. Yes, they’re that good. If for some reason, you need an example, we’re happy to share! “’Cause I am more than what I am to you/ You say I’m pretty, but I’ve got magic that you never knew/ And I won’t be confined to your point of view.

Breathtaking is the first word that comes to our mind. Olivia, please share your secrets, and we promise we won’t tell anyone. We just want to know how you do it. On top of the lyrics being a beautiful metaphor in so many ways, they manage to be relatable enough for us to never wanna turn it off. Olivia remains an icon, and along with the lyrics being absolutely magical, the music video adds to the art of the song.

The Music Video Is *Chef’s Kiss*

The music video is simple but very effective. It is a one-set video, where Olivia is alone with a piano. This adds to the metaphoric, euphoric effect that the whole production has. Olivia looked absolutely stunning in the video, and we think she showed off her talent beautifully.

Olivia continues to do big things. We know that soon she’ll have a Grammy, and we’ll all sit around a table tearing up because it all started with ‘All I Want.’ Whether you knew her from the start or the release of Sour, we can all agree we love the direction she’s heading.

[…] Olivia Rodrigo, the new pop sensation, broke the record for the most streams in a single day ever. Plus, she is a One Direction fan! She said, “I actually was the hugest One Direction fan when I was younger. This is sort of embarrassing, but I’m going to tell you anyway. I used to write One Direction fan fiction when I was in middle school. Just cheesy stuff like “Oh, Harry proposes to you” and stuff like that. I was that die-hard of a fan.” The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star made sure to point out that she was always the subject… Read more »
