Ed Sheeran Is Teaching Us Some ‘Bad Habits’ And We Don’t Mind

Ed Sheeran

Finally, the day has arrived! We were ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and wishing for our ‘Perfect’ pop king Ed Sheeran to return from his ‘Castle On The Hill.’ And well, our prayers are heard. We are in for a treat as Ed marked a remarkable return with his brand new single, but this time to teach us some ‘Bad Habits!’

Are we complaining? Nooo! Are we excited? Oh hell, yeah!

Global superstar Ed Sheeran has officially returned to music with the up-tempo, guitar-laced, and euphoric ‘Bad Habits,’ which’s going to be the ultimate summer anthem that makes you want to dance. Co-written and co-produced with long-time collaborators Johnny McDaid and FRED, ‘Bad Habits’ marks the beginning of a brand new era that’s getting us all excited! The single arrived with a cinematic Dave Meyers-directed official music video, and we are surprised to see Ed Sheeran’s newest scary vampire look. We are gonna be honest with you, we never saw this coming so props to you, big man!

Meet Ed Sheeran: The Vampire!

Swapping his trademark ginger hair for a bleached white look, teeth for long fangs, adding some glitter, and long painted nails, we meet with Ed Sheeran’s alter-ego vampire character which is scary enough but still looks cute! As the video progresses, we embark on a wild fun ride with fellow ghouls and vampires throughout the night until the sun comes up again and he comes back to his real self, as our lovely ginger boy!

Surprised? Us too! Don’t believe us? Then check out for yourself!

But ‘Bad Habits’ Are Deeper Than A Wild Ride!

As fun and cinematic as the video is, there’s a deeper meaning to this song. The song channels escapist energy and such a relatable vibe which is brilliant. The dark-humor narrative served as a metaphor for Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’ throughout the video. The late-night conversations that we have with ourselves while laying on our bed and staring at the ceiling in the dark; when our brain suddenly opens too many tabs together that end up crashing our system. We overthink things, have bad thoughts, and want to escape the world. So we build fake scenarios in our head and a whole new world that only we can control. We go for an adventurous ride and brush off these thoughts while trying to escape reality, until the night ends and we wake up, ready to meet the real world once again.

Yeah, this vicious circle is our bad habit that we can’t break!

After basking in the ‘Afterglow’ of the victorious and record-breaking album Divide, followed by a two-year-long tour, and the arrival of his beautiful first daughter, Ed Sheeran took some time away from music and the spotlight to focus on himself and his family. But now, he is back to take the reins, and we are doing a happy dance. We aren’t the only ones feeling ecstatic here!

Feels great to be back with my new single. I wanted the video for ‘Bad Habits’ to play on the nature of habits in a fantastical way so I decided on vampires. It was mega fun getting into character except for the heights (that wasn’t so fun). Enjoy. x

Ed Sheeran joined Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1 to chat about all things fun! He discussed the idea and making of his new single ‘Bad Habits,’ enjoying fatherhood since welcoming his daughter into the world, early success, approaching a new era in his career, and much more. Tune in here to listen to the whole interview, or get a sneak peek below, with our best bits!

Making Of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’

Here we were desperately waiting for Ed Sheeran to come back with new music, and there he was working behind the scenes in the studio!. After a few brainstorming and demo sessions with Fred and his manager, they decided to try something out of their comfort zone – something new, vibrant, and something for summer dance! And that’s how ‘Bad Habits’ was born!

What I loved about it is Fred’s approach to the vocals. It’s barely a whisper. No, Fred’s approach is basically just whispering on the mic. He just said like, you’ll have this massive bassy chugging and you have this tiny vocal that you’ve made huge. Man, it works out. So, the process of actually deciding it was going to go on the album was I had the first single chosen and we were coming in June. When life is getting back to normal and you can put out this song and I want it to just lift.

Becoming A Father

Becoming a parent is indeed one of the best feelings in the world. The joy and sparkles one feels when holding their child for the first time is truly unmatched. But that tingling feeling of excitement comes with jitters. Certain expectations and responsibilities come with it, but we learn everything day by day and Ed Sheeran felt no different than us. When asked what was the biggest takeaway he had from this experience, he said,

I think the biggest thing I took away from it was… Well, two things. The relationship that I had with my parents has completely changed from like, it was amazing before, but now it’s just like there’s this eternal gratefulness and respect of being like, I know what they went through and I’m still going through it. And also, the other thing is no one knows what they’re doing. I see people, I’m like, “Oh my God, that guy’s the best dad in the world.” But he started just like me, like not knowing anything. I’m learning day by day. So, I think it’s amazing. My lifestyle has completely shifted. Instead of going to bed at 6:00 a.m., I’m getting up at 6:00 a.m. and well, earlier than that, but like…Oh, man, she’s jet-lagged at the moment in L.A. I started exercising. I used to do everything to excess, like real excess. Like I would have like… I would go to a restaurant and be like, “Oh, I like the look of that. And like the look of that. And like, I’ll just, I’ll eat all of that.” I loved drinking everything in sight and all the other stuff. And I just found like when Cherry was six months pregnant, I was like, right at this point, water might break anytime and I’m just going to stop excess and just be available and be the husband that I’m meant to be. And yeah, and then from there it’s kind of been like clean, healthy living.

There, right there.. that’s what we call husband goals and father goals. Ed, you’re doing amazing and we are so rooting for your life’s new role as a father.

Settling Down

“I found a love for me / Oh darling, just dive right in and follow my lead / Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet / Oh, I never knew you were the someone waiting for me!”

Who didn’t listen to this ultimate love anthem and didn’t reminisce their own love moments with someone very special? We don’t know one person on this whole planet who didn’t listen to this heartwarming melody at least once in their life. ‘Perfect’ is the perfect love story of our beloved singer and his wife, Cherry, who are a match made in heaven and we know y’all agree with us! Two beautiful people who are made for each other, and when you finally find someone like that, you wouldn’t want to wait any longer. You just want to be with them for life.

I mean, me and Cherry, both come from the same county. Like she grew up 10 minutes away from our house at the moment. I grew up five minutes away from it. And we have been based there since the tour ended. And we have friends that live around there. Both of our parents live really close and we’ve formed this life in… It’s not like when we lived in London before, it’s just go, go, go, go, go. Social things are happening every night. It’s always like, or, then you’re out on a date, the two of you, but this is very much just a whole like I never really got the every Sunday roast thing because that wasn’t really something I grew up with, but it’s something she grew up with and she taught me how to do a proper roast chicken, cut potatoes, make proper roast potatoes and like doing that every Sunday, getting into a routine of that, having a date night every Friday like it was just… It’s wholesome, good.

Approach To Releasing Albums!

Ed Sheeran is a perfectionist who takes his time to make albums. And even though the process takes longer, they turn out to be the ultimate masterpieces. Every song that he delivered in the past outranked each other. He’s enjoying the process and currently feels impressed by Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande’s approach to the music.

Elton John used to put out three albums a year and I think that’s where music’s heading. And I think after I’ve done this record and the next record, which have been my five-album plan for the last 10, 11 years, once I’ve done that, it’s just going to be a bit more free.

Making Music To Make Himself Happy!

Do what your heart pleases. That’s something we always live by and Ed Sheeran agrees with us. He’s making records that he wants to listen to. There’s no doubt that the competition in the music industry is fierce and cutthroat. But the honest music still stands out. If you’re going to do things to appease others rather than yourself, you’ll soon get bored.

If I made music for my fan base, I wouldn’t be happy. I’d be making music to appease someone else. The reason I create music and play music is essential to make myself happy. I feel like that’s why anyone creates. If you’re like, what’s the quote, “There’s no key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.” So just do you.

New Era

Ed Sheeran is currently recording his new album. This new era in his career feels like a breath of fresh air. Sonically, lyrically, visually, and aesthetically, we are stepping into a new world. Are you ready for this?

I’m enjoying trying different things. It feels like a new era of my career and I don’t want it to be defined by the old eras, but then at the same time, I don’t want to take away what inherently makes me, me.
