E.l.f. Presents Electric Mood: Where Music Meets Makeup

Makeup and music artistry collide in e.l.f.’s next big limited-edition beauty collection! Electric Mood’s fantabulous shiny collection of cosmetics was the product of Beautyscape, e.l.f.’s annual competition, which offers up-and-coming makeup lovers the chance to help create their own original beauty collection.

Music-Inspired Makeup

e.l.f. shook things up to remix Beautyscape this year by partnering with musical artists from Universal Music Group and female-empowering organization, Girls, Inc. The competition winners were chosen by majority vote on Instagram and a panel of e.l.f. judges back in October got to collaborate with a UMGB artist to bring their music-inspired beauty collection to life.

Three Girls, Inc. alumnae, Nina Ho, Joleena Mundy, and Aryana Richardson, also played a part in the creation of Electric Mood. Their involvement continued e.l.f.’s commitment to inspiring young people to be strong, smart, and bold.

“The connection between the artists, winners, and alumnae was instant and beautiful — and you can see the magic in all three collections.”

The Process

Before actually building the makeup collections, the Beautyscape winners and Girls Inc. alumnae were treated to a fully immersive educational experience — e.l.f. style. They took a virtual cooking class, a high-energy fitness class, and of course, a makeup class, with a special celebrity makeup artist no less. Dang, we wish our schools offered classes like those!

All the workshops were meant to help everyone immerse themselves in the product development and innovation process at e.l.f. before meeting with the e.l.f. team (and the music artists) to actually begin working on the makeup collection.

The classes clearly paid off because here’s a look at all the cool stuff they came up with:

Beautyscape winner @emilyannecarden (left) was paired with Colombian singer and songwriter Pitizion (right) to create her original beauty collection. Inspired by the rising Latin superstar with chart-topping hits across the world, the bold “Electric Mood x Pitizion” collection was born. It features the red-tinted Shadow Crayon Duo ($12), Plumping Sheer Slick ($7), and De La Sol Cream Face Quad ($12).

The crayons are a pair of creamy, blendable shadows that are long-wearing, smudge-proof, and crease-resistant. Basically everything you could want in a shadow. The cherry-hued lipstick is lightweight, balmy-smooth, and offers a rich wash of color. Completing the set is the radiant 3-in-1 pan of creamy matte blushes, bronzer, and a shimmery highlighter for a warm flush of rosy color.

Winner @karolscorner co-created “Electric Mood x Tove Lo” with — you guessed it — the one and only Tove Lo! The Grammy and Golden-Globe nominated Swedish singer-songwriter inspired the most futuristic-looking set of chrome cosmetics we’ve ever seen. We’re sure the color reflects Lo’s many multi-platinum pop hits, so good on them for recognizing talent where it’s due.

First up in this set is the Disco Glitz Brow & Eye Kit ($18). It’s a universal eye and body glitter paste that comes with a dual-ended applicator and brush, so you can get your glitter on. Next is the jojoba oil and vegan collagen-infused Hydrating Balm ($10) for when you need some soothing hydration and a sheer wash of color. The Glassy Skin Balm ($8) does exactly what it sounds like. It produces a stunning, glass-skin effect with its translucent formula that’s perfect for all skin tones. Last, is the Electric Mood Brush Set for $15, a complementary four-piece brush and sponge set that definitely won’t be available for long.

“Electric Mood x Tiana Major9” was birthed from winner @the_brooksbrother‘s collaboration with future-facing R&B, soul, and hip-hop artist Tiana Major9. The bold, vibrant color scheme perfectly reflects the critically acclaimed R&B songstress with soaring vocals and epic music collabs. The 18 shades of highly-pigmented matte, shimmer, and metallic creams comprising the Feeling Lucky Eyeshadow Palette ($16) reflect Tiana’s ability to steal the stage too.

Completing the set is a high-shine lip gloss and lip pencil Lip Duo ($12) and a 2-in-1 face concentrate, aptly named Illuminating Elixir ($14). For soft, kissable lips, the Lip Duo was infused with coconut oil and Shea butter, while the elixir boasts hydrating hyaluronic acid and jojoba oil to promote a natural-dewy glow.

How to Get Your Hands on These Gems

The entire Electric Mood Collection will be available on elfcosmetics.com and target.com starting July 1st! They’ll also be physically available at Target from July 11th. Just a reminder, all e.l.f. products are vegan and cruelty-free so you can enjoy splurging on them completely guilt-free.

Makeup-Inspired Music?

As a special encore, Tove Lo, Pitizion, and Tiana Major9 have all remixed a song inspired by their beauty collection and music style that will be available on Spotify. The Beautyscape remixes of Tiana Major9’s ‘Lucky’ and Pitizion + Adso Alejandro’s ‘Apatía’ will be available from July 2nd. Tove Lo’s ‘Cool Girl’ (The Beautyscape Remix) will be available on Spotify starting July 9th, so get hyped.
