8 Summer Smash Hits You Probably Forgot About

We all know that summer is the time for new music releases. For years, we’ve gotten some of our favorite albums and summer essentials on vacation. But have you been keeping track of them all? Join us as we revisit some of the biggest summer smash hits from the past decade.

California Gurls – Katy Perry (Ft. Snoop Dogg) (2010)

We’re starting off strong with arguably the most iconic summer hit by the legends, Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg! ‘California Gurls’ has become the anthem of beach bonfires and car rides around the world. How can you not want to kick up the sand while listening to this bop?

Truly the collab of the century, we cannot get over Snoop’s verses in it. We’re pretty sure his part is ingrained into our brains after all these years, and we’re definitely not complaining. Katy Perry is definitely one of the most famous summer icons and she’s put out several bonfire bangers. But, this one definitely climbs to the top.

Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO (Ft. Lauren Bennett, GoonRock) (2011)

Ah yes, so did you ever get the shuffle dance down? Let’s get a petition to bring that back! ‘Party Rock Anthem’ by family duo LMFAO earns its namesake. Put this on at any party and wait for the beat to drop. We can guarantee everyone will be having the best time with this song on!

Taking a longer look at their discography, we see party staples like ‘Shots’ and ‘Sexy and I Know It.’ Don’t even get us started on those bops, they’re the perfect way to start a weekend. We dare you to stay still when LMFAO is on. We definitely can’t!

Call Me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen (2012)

Everyone and their Mom was singing this song back in 2012. It was on the radio 24/7 but with a catchy chorus like that, how could you not sing along? The music video has over one billion views, you read that right. Probably because we’ve been bumping this track every summer! Carly Rae Jepsen truly took over the summer!

Feel So Close – (Calvin Harris) (2013)

Ah yes, Calvin Harris. We’ve gotten nothing but bops for as long as he’s been making music. Have you ever listened to Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1? The whole album just screams summer! ‘Feel So Close’ came out in 2013 and has been a radio staple ever since. It reminds us of the perfect summer romance, with the perfect beat for a party.

This track is everything we want and more from a summer hit which is why it’s such a big deal! We’ve got to thank Calvin Harris for supplying us with some of the most amazing summer bops!

Fancy – Iggy Azalea (Ft. Charli XCX) (2014)

We’re still screaming ‘Fancy’ by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX! You already know this song had to appear on our list. We were all obsessed with this song at one point and many of us still are. Give this track a listen while you’re getting ready for the day but don’t blame us if you end up running late. We catch ourselves dancing to it without even realizing!

The Clueless inspired music video adds even more nostalgia to the track and we’re living for the vibes. This collab was seriously legendary and we’re still obsessing over it today.

This Is What You Came For – Calvin Harris (Ft. Rihanna) (2016)

See, we told you! Calvin Harris is truly the king of summer! Accompanied by the one and only Rihanna, we have a track fit for the dance floor. Clocking in at over two billion views, this track is their second collaboration that makes for the perfect dance floor bop.

There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back – Shawn Mendes (2017)

Don’t you worry, we didn’t forget to include Shawn in this list! Released in 2017, ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’ became the song of the summer! From the lyrics to the beat, the song holds the perfect recipe for a timeless tune! Now, while music is our thing here at THP, we can’t deny that there’s nothing holding us back from breaking out into dance with this one!

We give a million thanks to the one and only Shawn Mendes for giving us this track. We seriously get nothing but good vibes from this song!

In My Feelings – Drake (2018)

Did you hop out of the car to dance to this song too? Well, you’re not alone! Drake seriously knows how to make songs perfect for a dance break. Drake released ‘In my Feelings’ in 2018 and it caused a summer storm! Blowing up on social media, this song quickly gained popularity and made its way onto summer playlists around the world.

The vibes were seriously so good when this came out and we feel them again when listening to this track! But we’re still wondering if Kiki loves him… Sorry, couldn’t pass up that opportunity.

So, those are some of our favorite summer hits of the 2010s! We hope you feel all the nostalgia flooding back in while listening to these tracks. In the meantime, enjoy your summer and take it easy! Turn up the volume and don’t forget the sunscreen, we’ll meet you at the beach!
