It’s just two days until Gossip GirlReboot comes out to play, and after all, we’ve come to know about it, hear us shout from the other side of the screen! Three words, eight letters – it is fire.
And for those of you new to the GGverse, let us show you how we roll at the Upper East Side!
The original CW teen series dripped with spice-filled drama and gave us the most significant fashion, love, and frenemy goals of all time. At the same time, following the lives of the sophisticated “rich kids” of New York City going to the elite schools, Constance Billard and St. Jude’s.
And we never knew we could love something after nine whole years just as much as we did when we watched the GG pilot and then some! But then Gossip Girl always did love to exceed her praises herself. Yes, she is returning to break a few hearts with a Reboot, making us jump on our Louboutin stilettos ever since! And we want you to join in on the hype, which is why we’re here to share the intel.
The Hawt-e Cast To Die For
In the reboot, a new cast steps in with fresh faces and an enviable presence on screen. Screenwriter Joshua Safran stays true to his word when he said that Gossip Girl Reboot would represent a diverse representation, and it shows. Just lay your eyes on the beautiful cast!
We have the formidable Julien Calloway (Jordan Alexander), the stylish Luna La (Zion Moreno), and the classy Monet De Haan (Savannah Smith) forming the “Holy Trinity” that rules the MET steps at Constance this time.
The graceful Emily Lind plays Jordan’s best friend Audrey Hope, who is into “finer things in life.” Including a talent of sassy comebacks and old-school classic tastes like Audrey Hepburn and Lauren Bacall, which hit us with déjà vu, reminding us of the OG Queen B.
Judging by the similarities in character and fashion tastes, we believe Jordan’s and Emily’s characters will continue the legacy of the epic best friendship style guide left behind by Serena Van Der Woodsen (played by Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester). But then again, Gossip Girl has held an infamous track record at doing the unexpected, and this is a Reboot season, so-
The perspicacious and beautiful Whitney Peak plays Zoya Lott. The labeled outsider that gets an elevator pass into the A-list, hitting close to the characters of Dan and Jenny Humphrey from the original series. And may we sneak in a spoiler because we love gossip so much – according to Vulture, the Gossip Girl Reboot will also go on to reveal her as Julien’s half-sister, paving the way for more drama.
Fulfilling and overloading the male appeal quotient for this time, we have the casanova Maximus Wolfe (Thomas Doherty) who, according to popular belief, steps into the one and only Chuck Bass’ shoes, and boy, do they fit like they’re custom-tailored! We all know that Ed Westwick had brought us to our knees with that charisma, and every heart had molten at the sultry accent of his playboy flirtations. So when we say Thomas is the best fit for playing the alpha Wolfe of the Gossip Girl Reboot, you can imagine just how good he must be.
We also get to see Obie Bergman (Eli Brown) as Julien’s rich do-gooder romantic interest, but then we know everyone gets a little bad sometimes. And Evan Mock plays the enigmatic skater Aki Menzies, Audrey’s long-time boyfriend. Can we take a minute to call dibs on his lush pink hair, though?
Thickened Plotline With Inclusive Representation
With such a dynamic, superb, versatile, and glamourous cast, we’ll surely face difficulty paying attention to the plot, but then Gossip Girl plotlines aren’t ones to miss. Like the original, it focuses on the social hierarchy of the Upper East Side teenagers, picking up twelve years after the original series ended, where once again you can’t tell who’s friend, who’s foe, and who’s both.
A stark difference that can be noted between the original Gossip Girl and the Reboot is that the surveillance medium this time is an ambiguous Instagram account, contrary to the blog that monitored the social lives of the OG Upper East Siders.
It’s just a new look at this particular society in New York, the idea being that society changes constantly. So how has this world changed, how has social media and its effect changed? All of those things allow us to look at the world 12 years on as opposed to just redoing the story.
Joshua Safran about Gossip Girl Reboot.
We also expect to see more LGBTQI+ representation in the Gossip Girl Reboot! Shattering various sexuality taboos and unjust gender norms, the reboot clearly solidifies Safran’s point that society has changed in the last few years, making it more accepting and evolving.
It’s a new take on it, a different time. It’s not a reboot, it’s a continuation, so we have an entirely new story and I think that’s really important. We’re making a series in 2020 and 2021. It’s really important for us to not just talk about these things but also express them as normal things that kids deal with. It shouldn’t be this new, exciting thing to talk about, it just exists. It’s about normalizing things that used to be different or taboo.
Emily Alyn Lind about LGBTQ+ representation in Gossip Girl Reboot
Another thing about the GG Reboot that we are excited about in capital letters is that Kristen Bell returns to voice it! Yes, we get to hear the all-seer Gossip Girl in the OG vocals of Bell. It’s been a long time since we’ve listened to her spill the secrets of the Upper East Side like inexpensive confetti, and we can’t get ourselves to calm down! Obviously, the million-dollar question remains who will be the masked vigilante behind her voice that pulls all the strings this time, but we don’t expect it to be any less shocking than the first time! We’re still- dealing with that.
Now we’re not that cruel that we’ll give away the biggest spoiler of all time, but if you have watched the season finale of the original show, you know what we’re talking about! Let us know in the comments who you think is Gossip Girl for this Reboot.

In the previous seasons, we have witnessed most episodes centered around a social event. We can already spot a fashion show, a Halloween party, Thanksgiving, and more on the runway from teasers, trailers, and set photos so far.

Sub-plot Theories On Our List
True to the nature that earns all the fame for it, Gossip Girl Reboot does not believe in holding back in any department, least of all in drama. We can already spot the burgeoning of two love triangles, and we can’t pick only one favorite ship, so lend us a hand?
The word is that pansexual Max Wolfe, played by Doherty, is involved in a mysterious secret with the Audrey-Aki couple. We have seen equally fiery chemistry between Audrey and Max and Aki and Max. The trio is one of the most bewitching subplots of the show this time, and our heads are bursting with theories already as to which couple takes the cake.
Likewise, there is a love triangle between Queen Julien, Obie, and the freshman insider Zoya. Are two sisters competing for the handsome guy? Get your popcorn tubs ready!
OG cast back on deck?
While we swoon over the new Upper East Siders, we can’t help miss the ones who created and ruled the original franchise in the first place.
They are a part of the world. The characters talk about them and that they do exist. So yeah, I would love to have them come back. The show jumped five years in the future when it ended and we are past that five years now, so it’s whole new things that they could be doing. I think of [the new show] like the Marvel universe. It’s not a continuation or a sequel. It truly just is looking at a different angle.
Joshua Safran about the original cast of Gossip Girl
We’re probably never getting over the sassy, sweet and spicy when needed avatars of Dan Humphrey because we’d kill for a guy like him and that forever kind of love of his. Though Penn Badgley has mentioned that he’ll have to “think about it,” everyone knows that You keeps him entirely occupied. But we still have our fingers crossed and expect a cameo from the girls! And excuse us, but if we don’t see Nate Archibald as the Mayor of New York City this time, we won’t take accountability for our breakdown episodes.
If there’s an opening in the future for doing a cameo, I would definitely be open to it. The show was a big part of my life and was really special. I loved everyone on it, from the cast to the crew. We were a real family.
Chace Crawford about Gossip Girl and his character Nate Archibald
All in all, Gossip Girl Reboot screams of chaotic beauty, toppled with secrets, power grabs, jealousy, subtle messages, plot twists, steaming romance, friendship, revenge, stalking, and betrayal. And this time around, it’s way more intense! It is so far known to have 12 episodes, the first six of which will be aired weekly from July 8th on HBO Max and the other six sometime between September and December.
