If you were ever doubtful of Halsey’s power, this should unanimously put it to rest and bury it 6 feet under the ground, because this woman is unstoppable! Quite literally, because she has crafted a whole album whilst growing a whole baby inside her. What screams more POWERFUL than this? We have an answer- the album artwork. It’s sheer royalty.
Stunned, aren’t you? We totally understand because we at THP are, too. The album artwork sports a digital recreation of the Virgin and Child Surrounded by Angels painting by Jean Fouquet. Halsey has for sure, never looked more ethereal and breath-taking.
This jawdropping album cover sets the perfect precursor for her fourth studio album – If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, set to be out in the world, August 27th, this year, via Capitol Records. The production has been handled by music giants Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, who are known to have bagged multiple GRAMMYs, Golden Globes and Oscars, while our queen Halsey has penned and recorded every song, herself. She has really taken the element of power, very seriously. This also means that the album will be all no-skips and just bops.
Halsey took to her social media handles in late January to announce her first pregnancy. From what we know from the track ‘More’ from 2020’s chartbuster of a record Manic and her documentaries, motherhood has been something she’s been ardent to achieve but has struggled to, and now that she finally gets to do it, she has decided to seal the deal with an entire album that documents her entire journey through it – the joys and horrors alike. What a Halsey thing to do, indeed. She explains further, about the album art:
The artwork reveal, filmed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue, New York, finds Halsey strolling through the vast space, stopping at different pieces depicting different shades of motherhood, donning a shiny, sequined leotard and a dark beige drape all around, sporting her gorgeous baby bump and that breathtaking eye makeup. At her final stop, she steps up to a podium and uncovers the iconic artwork to If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power. What a serve!
Soon after she put this out, Twitter blew up and fans and we at THP too, have simply lost it, since! Here’s what we’re talking about:
Halsey is not one to shy away from pushing her creative boundaries, expanding her influence and impact beyond music. With the cover art of If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power she wants to speak out on body dysmorphia, which people often suffer, during pregnancy and after giving birth, and let’s just leave it to Halsey to take up important and difficult conversations and turn them into raw, cathartic art. Every time she brings to light socially stigmatized issues like her battle with endometriosis or bipolar disorder, she spreads awareness and also just provides a sense of comfort and inclusivity to so many people, especially her young, female-identifying fans. This is so incredibly unique of Halsey and we are not surprised at how she continues to break past the unjust societal norms, time and again – a stellar example of which is about-face, Halsey’s multi-dimensional makeup line made for everyone.
