Girl power! The concept is the new cool for 25 years! Thanks to the Spice Girls and their candy-flavored pop music that took over the world in 1996. They paved the way for success and influenced many of our favs through the years, from Little Mix, to recently Dua Lipa’s fire performance at the Brit Awards. Let’s take a look back in time and remind ourselves of some of their biggest hits!
‘Say You’ll Be There’
“If you put two and two together
You will see what our friendship is for, oh/If you can’t work this equation
Then I guess I’ll have to show you the door,”
Geri slams with such a tour de force. ‘Say You’ll Be There’ is that song that started a movement along with ‘Wannabe’ where women are strong and don’t belong like objects to anyone. Girls are the superheroes of the whole world. The visuals of the 1997’s Brit Awards best video winner is very representative of this concept. Let’s fight for our rights!
‘Spice Up Your Life’
Little Mix wasn’t the first to be Caliente with their collaboration with CNCO, ‘Reggaeton Lento.’ The Spice Girls paved the way with their salsa rhythmics on ‘Spice Up Your Life,’ and it’s super hot! Top five in many countries, the saucy Latin-pop number is in the heart of many retro parties.
This is the choreography everyone wants to learn. All the little girls (and boys!) have fun, dance, and lip-sync to that upbeat and cheer-up song. The bonus? Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, gigantic high notes that make it incredibly great!
The Spice Girls loved the glamour, and this one kicks in with some class. The song, taken from their movie Spiceworld, is that powerful ballad that stuck in the head. Inspired by different movies matching the girls’ personalities, we immerse into Mad Max, Poltergeist, and Marilyn Monroe’s styles with the official video. The talent explodes, and we live for it!
“If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends.” Who never sang this earworm in the shower or on the streets with our bunch of friends? This song from the Spice Girls hit the world by storm. After the Beatlemania, there was the Spicemania. They took over the whole industry with their female empowerment messages. Girls knew what they want, what they really, really want!
Let the celebration begins! On July 9th, a special Wannabe25 EP is due for release on streaming platforms. Do you wish for special collectible items from the girls?
