Hey there, honeybees! Welcome to another edition of Binge-Worthy Buzz, a weekly series where we come to the rescue of those in need of something to watch. We know how that can be a challenge, we’ve spent over 30 minutes trying to choose something to watch on a Friday night more than once. Now, let’s dive in!
American Horror Stories
For all American Horror Story fans, we have some great news for you! Ryan Murphy’s newest project, American Horror Stories, is dropping on Hulu on July 15! Serving as a spin-off from AHS, the new anthology series will have a different story every episode a là The Twilight Zone. Sarah Paulson will be one of the directors and some of her colleagues from American Horror Story, like Evan Peters and Matt Bomer, will also be in American Horror Stories. Two episodes will be available this week, followed by five more weekly releases.
Never Have I Ever
Devi Vishwakumar is back! Netflix’s Never Have I Ever became an instant hit with young audiences for being a coming-of-age story that doesn’t try to make its protagonist look perfect or “not like other teens.” Devi finished the first season in quite the cliffhanger: two boys liking her at the same time. And naturally, as the teenager she is, she has no clue how to deal with this information. Oh, and there’s also a new girl in school who may cause some trouble. The joys of high school, everyone.
Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who
The Who is quite the band, aren’t they? They’ve been around for decades and now, they have a documentary to explore their career! Directors Murray Lerner and Paul Crowder invite us on this Amazing Journey behind the curtain, including previously unseen footage and interviews with the surviving band members. The documentary is currently available on The Coda Collection. Have fun, rock n’ roll fans! We know we will.
Space Jam: A New Legacy
The sequel to the iconic 90s classic is here! As we said a while back, this movie’s basketball legend is LeBron James, who steps into Michael Jordan’s shoes and teams up with the Looney Tunes to save his son from aliens. Crazy, right? But that’s what we love about this movie! Well, that and the cast, which includes Zendaya and Don Cheadle along with some characters’ original voice actors, like Jeff Bergman and Eric Bauza. This Friday (July 16,) the movie will be available for streaming on HBO Max.
Howard is a documentary released last year on Disney+ about Howard Ashman’s life. Ashman was one of the composers responsible for some of the most iconic soundtracks of the Disney Renaissance. Along with Alan Menken, he wrote for The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. Sadly, Ashman never got to see Beauty and the Beast hit theaters in 1991, as he died during the production stage of the film. Howard Ashman’s story is a beautiful one that any Disney fan should know. You won’t regret watching it, but you may spill a few tears.
Closing our list this week is an underappreciated Marvel show. Long before WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, another badass MCU character had her own show: Agent Peggy Carter. Sadly canceled after only two seasons, Agent Carter follows Peggy’s life after WWII is over and she’s back to working at the SSR in New York. The show from 2016 filled in some gaps about Peggy’s life after the war and before she appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, expanding her character and giving viewers more reasons to admire her. Definitely worth checking out on Disney+.
And there you have it, this week’s picks for anyone who needs to relax and watch something fun for a few hours. Tell us what you think of our choices in the comments or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP!
