The grind never stops for Lil Nas X. After dropping two smash hit singles earlier this year – he’s still going. His latest track, ‘Industry Baby’ feat. Jack Harlow is every bit as cheeky and clever as we hoped it would be. He has also used the new song’s release as an opportunity to take action with cash bail by creating the Bail X Fund. We’re here today to break down Lil Nas X’s ‘Industry Baby,’ its music video, and the Bail X Fund.
What Is ‘Industry Baby’ All About?
Produced by Take A Daytrip and Kanye West, ‘Industry Baby’ is the latest single from Lil Nas X’s upcoming album Montero, which we’ll hear later this year. With brassy horns and booming 808s, the song packs a major punch. The lyrics are deeply personal for Lil Nas X, describing how he gained confidence in himself and his ability to be a fixture in the music world. In the music video for ‘Industry Baby,’ the pop star serves jail time after losing a legal battle with Nike over his Satan shoes. Being who he is, he also serves looks while he’s locked up. The hot pink uniforms that Lil Nas X and his fellow inmates wear add a touch of camp to the drab prison backdrop. The video depicts Lil Nas X’s life behind bars, from polishing his Grammy trophies in his cell to leading a jailbreak at the end.
What Is The Bail X Fund?
The courtroom and prison settings for the ‘Industry Baby’ music video are not just for show. Lil Nas X announced that he has partnered with The Bail Project to create the Bail X Fund, which provides free bail assistance for low-income people across the U.S. He and Jack Harlow have already contributed to the fund, and they encourage fans to donate as well. All donations go directly into The Bail Project’s national revolving bail fund.
On the Bail X Fund’s website, Lil Nas X stated: “It’s personal. I know the pain that incarceration brings to a family. And I know the disproportionate impact that cash bail has on Black Americans and the LGBTQ community. Let’s bring people home & let’s fight for freedom and equality.” To find out more and donate, click here.
