Pop Smoke & Dua Lipa’s ‘Demeanor’ Has Us Staring

Ever since Pop Smoke and Dua Lipa dropped their latest masterpiece ‘Demeanor,’ we have been running to our seamstresses to get our corsets tightened for the season. Didn’t you hear? They’ve hosted the grandest ball.

Dropping hot from his posthumous album, FAITH, is Pop Smoke’s savory delight of luxurious music with an even juicier music video, with the ‘Levitating’ queen Dua Lipa. We recommend not blinking while you watch this one.

‘Demeanor’ Is A Lavish Musical Feast You Don’t Want To Miss

That “je ne sais quoi” energy / Baby, get on your knees /
You can’t say pop without smoke / So fill up with your lungs /

My diamonds will make you choke / You like the way I move /
My demeanor is meaner than yours

The highly anticipated song has more than lived up to its build-up and we never expected anything less from this dynamite duo made-in-musical-dream-factory, singing about living the grand life instead of blandly existing. The song opens with Pop Smoke’s enchantingly smooth rap and Dua Lipa’s “female alpha” harmonizing joins in around the second verse. It feels like a whole new Smoke-Lipa genre of pop with a casual guitar strum, a soulful dolphin string background, a feel-good upbeat vibe and the hot hissing note that steals your heart within the first ten seconds of the hook. *fanning our faces*

Pop Smoke & Dua Lipa Go Medieval For ‘Demeanor’ Music Video

The music video for ‘Demeanor’ has spared no expense and is just as luxurious as the song. Themed on the vintage aesthetics of the “Bridgerton-like” medieval, regency era, we see a classic scene of a gossiping lady-in-waiting and an epic wide shot of a castle, that leaves us having the same mesmerized face as the kid in the MV. We get you, brother.

The video features classical and extravagant costumes of the likes of the Baroque period and Dua Lipa’s majestic entrance, bursting open the wide double doors in the most magnificent ruffle gown, is the style statement that lives in our heads rent-free. Her feature surely changes the game, breathing in new air to Pop Smoke’s hip-hop forte and her choreography- we’re still- uh, dealing.

“I’m so proud to be on this amazing song and to celebrate Pop as such a great artist. I was really touched when Steven Victor from his label showed me the video of Pop dancing to ‘One Kiss’ and told me how much Pop liked my music. Hope everyone enjoys the video, it was great working with Nabil again and it’s one of my favourite videos.”

Dua Lipa about collaborating with Pop Smoke

Pop Smoke’s legacy continues with ‘Demeanor’ and there’s plenty of evidence to claim it. Throughout the video, various instances feel like a tribute to the late hip-hop rapper whose debut album had already shown us how insanely talented he was. Dua Lipa herself doesn’t shy away from singing out the iconic line: “You can’t spell pop without Smoke,” and we see snippets of him sitting at the head of the table amidst a misty cloud and a royal wall painting immortalizing him as an unforgettable emperor.

The third number from Pop Smoke’s album FAITH follows the release of his previous smash-hit, ‘Coupe’ and the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album, in the words of The New York Times, is “a splash of theatre more visceral than any radio hit, any crossover,” and if you look at the star-studded tracklist for it, your musical buds are going to water irresistibly (just like ours):
