Let’s Take A Trip To ‘misery lake’

We can hardly contain our excitement!! We finally have misery lake to listen to and gush over! As anyone who is a fan of blackbear will tell you, our favorite thing about his music is how honest he is with himself and his audience.

When it comes to misery lake we have so many thoughts! The EP as a whole, is cohesive and shows what an incredible writer blackbear is! We’re excited to dive into each track, let’s get to it

‘alone in a room full of people’

We have to say, ‘alone in a room full of people’ hit us like a ton of bricks. As we said before, blackbear is one of the best artists when it comes to being vulnerable in his music. blackbear knows how to express emotion and evoke emotion out of his listeners. We can already tell ‘alone in a room full of people’ will be the track from misery lake that we cry the most to.

‘@ my worst’

In a way ‘@ my worst’ reminds us of the song ‘peace’ by Taylor Swift. You have this constant internal battle of hoping that the person you love will love you, despite the things you see as unlovable. We can relate all too well to ‘@ my worst.’ If you have the chance to catch blackbear on tour with Maroon 5, be sure to! You won’t want to miss this track live!

‘u love u’ (with Tate McRae)

We have loved this track since its initial release! Anytime you get Tate McRae to jump on a track, you know it’s going to be incredible! She’s one of our absolute favorite new artists so we’re loving this collaboration! ‘u love u’ is a track all about a partner being selfish in a relationship and being in love with themselves. If you’ve ever dated an egotistical partner, you can relate!

‘ghost town’ ft. Sasha Alex Sloan

We can’t get over what an unbelievable voice Sasha Alex Sloan has. It’s almost soothing in a way. Sasha’s tone flows perfectly with blackbear’s! On ‘ghost town’ we get more of the incredible lyricism by blackbear, especially with the comparisons from a cold heart, to a ‘ghost town,’ to an overthinking mind, to a nightmare.

‘imu’ (ft. Travis Barker)

Travis Barker jumping on a track is always going to heighten that track. He’s an all-time great in the industry and if you listen to ‘imu’ you’ll see what we mean. Travis has a signature sound that you can always pinpoint. ‘imu’ is definitely one of our standouts from misery lake.

‘bad day’

What a way to close out a record! When choosing the tracklist we truly think blackbear couldn’t have chosen more wisely. With ‘bad day’ you get the petty anthem of our dreams. Someone really has to mess up in order for you to write a song all about wishing they have a bad life.
