5 Reasons Why I Told Sunset About You Should Be On Your Watchlist

Drama lovers, we come to you today with a drama you need, need to have on your watchlist. The Thai drama I Told Sunset About You aired throughout the second half of 2020 and it made that year so much better for us. When part two of the series, I Promised You The Moon, was announced for 2021, we couldn’t wait for it to finally drop! And the short film Last Twilight In Phuket definitely just left us craving for more. Let’s just say we were not ready for what’s to come in May (anyone else empty out five packages of tissues? just us?).

But today we want to share with you what makes I Told Sunset About You such a fantastic drama, it’s so much more than your ordinary BL, and why you should most definitely put it on your watchlist (really watch it, believe us just this once).

The Well-Written Screenplay

We maybe are owing Boss Naruebet Kuno our lives. Boss did such an amazing job with the screenplay and the directing of ITSAY. We don’t know where to start sharing with you what’s so great about it. But we know for sure this is not your ordinary BL, this is much more of a coming-of-age story and a story about finding yourself. The characters are here to be themselves and face life’s struggles, alone and then together. The plot also doesn’t use your usual tropes we have seen too many times and are maybe just a tiny bit tired of, ITSAY does not need clichés. Yes, this is still a rival to lovers’ plot line, but there is so much more to it. Boss has a gift and his directing and writing skills truly prove it.

The Main Characters: Teh and Oh Aew

Oh well, where do we start here? Teh and Oh Aew are the main characters of I Told Sunset About You, and you will fall in love with them slowly but surely. Each of them is perfect in our eyes because their characters aren’t, ITSAY does not shy away from making its characters complex and anything but flawless. They make mistakes, they grow beyond them and come into their own. You are also never forced to pick a side because both are illustrated perfectly and you understand what both of these characters go through. Also, Oh Aew and Teh are just adorable together and the actors playing the two have been best friends since 2016, so obviously, their chemistry is amazing. What is there not to love?

The Beautiful Cinematography

I Told Sunset About You was shot in Phuket, Thailand, which is undoubtedly a beautiful place to begin with, but Boss has such a fantastic eye to capture a scene, and some of these shots are just beyond stunning. The cinematography is one of the best parts of I Told Sunset About You, and it keeps your eyes glued to the screen. One thing is for sure when Boss is behind a project nothing is arbitrary, every shot and camera angle is planned, every open window and piece of clothing – especially its color – has meaning as much as every location does. I Told Sunset About You is truly a work of art.

The Score and OST

You’d think ITSAY would take the easy way out and just use your common background music, but no. All songs used in the background of the show are composed by Vichaya Vatanasapt, giving I Told Sunset About You its own original score. These songs truly set the mood of every scene, (we maybe have been listening to these classical pieces more than we would like to admit). Every time ‘Phuket Confusion’ plays we are taken right back to that scene in episode four, it’s so powerful. But besides an original score, ITSAY also has OSTs sung by both main actors, PP Krit and Billkin, each song is absolutely beautiful.

The Side Characters

You’d think all the reasons above would already be enough for you to want to watch I Told Sunset About You, but we still got more! Not only are ITSAY‘s main characters complex, but so are its side characters. There isn’t a minor role there to be a plot device, we get side players with their own dreams, goals, and ambitions, their strive for more, and their own struggles. This makes this drama so much better than anything other in the genre. Everyone is here because there is a life and meaning to them. (Shout out to Tarn, we love you girl!) Also, Teh’s brother Hoon has to be one of the best characters in the series. We absolutely adore him and how authentic his actions are, and we also want a brother like him.
