We are all aware that Elton John is a timeless artist. People from every generation know, love, and respect this man who is one of the most successful musicians of all time. However, the only reason why he is known and respected this much isn’t his success, but also his support to “modern” artists. He has a huge influence on the music industry and he is aware of it. He doesn’t hold back from using this influence to support the artists of Gen Z with every chance he gets. In the end, legends support legends, right?

While we are still trying to get over his amazing performance that took our breaths away with Years & Years on Brit Awards, he announced his new project: The Lockdown Sessions. The upcoming album is going to be released on October 22. So, when you pre-order the album from here, let us give you more details on this exciting project and how Elton John is changing the music industry with his endless support to other artists.
Sky Is The Limit For The “Rocket Man”
The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album.
On making the album
It seems like the overwhelming feeling the quarantine has brought to us didn’t affect Elton John and this new record is huge proof. Mostly recorded on Zoom, The Lockdown Sessions consists of 16 tracks, including 10 brand new songs. Instead of affecting him in a bad way, he says that this whole journey reminded him of his past as a session musician and this realization was his biggest motivation. “Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that,” he says, “I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”

As we have said before, The Lockdown Sessions has 10 new songs along with the tunes we are already familiar with such as ‘It’s a Sin’ cover featuring Years & Years and ‘Nothing Else Matters’ cover featuring Miley Cyrus. At this year’s Brit Awards, he collaborated with Years & Years and they put on an amazing performance to raise awareness for AIDS, while John is also giving his support to Olly Alexander to show how amazing a performer he is. So, it warms up our hearts seeing this legendary collab in such a powerful album, same as the Miley collab.
In a world where most of the new artists are, unluckily, not taken seriously, he appears to hate this as much as we do and he creates an opportunity for them to prove their amazing talents to the world. He doesn’t only show his support to new artists in the industry, but he also proves that many different genres can be at the same place in harmony.
Looking After The Future
His unconditional support is not limited to his new album The Lockdown Sessions. For many years, he has been collaborating with popular artists, giving them the motivation to keep on the hard work, or even talking about them in such a nice way.
On their latest single ‘Permission To Dance,’ BTS gives a thumbs up towards his way with the lyric “When it all feels like it’s wrong/Just sing along to Elton John.” In a response to this, he didn’t only express how flattered he was in words, but he also showed by joining the ‘Permission to Dance’ challenge, singing along.
I love new, young music. That’s what inspires me.
On his reaction to reference in ‘Permission To Dance’
His list of new artists he admires goes on and on with Demi Lovato, who he supported endlessly for being so open in their journey, One Direction who he gave a lot of advice to at the beginning of their music career, Lady Gaga who he has been great friends with for years now, and Little Mix who he constantly listens to and makes motivating comments about their music. These huge names are only half of the artists he stans. And with this brand new record, The Lockdown Sessions, he even doubles the names.
