Beliebers, get ready! Justin Bieber: Our World is coming to Amazon Prime on October 8. Directed by Michael D. Ratner, the film follows Justin as he prepared for his T-Mobile Presents New Year’s Eve Live with Justin Bieber concert in 2020. The show was his first in 3 years after the stadium leg of Purpose Tour was canceled due to mental health reasons.
The film will take us backstage, onstage, and behind-the-scenes of Justin’s life surrounding the concert. It’s Justin’s world, but in this documentary, it’s our world too.
T-Mobile Presents New Year’s Eve Live with Justin Bieber
Not only did he take a 3-year hiatus from touring, but with the worldwide pandemic shutting down live music, this concert was a celebratory feat for both fans and live event staff. The New Year’s show took place on the rooftop of the Beverly Hilton Hotel with 240 invited guests attending (including our fave Belieber Billie Eilish). Millions of fans were able to tune in via live stream, and as some of those fans, we can tell you it was so good. Not only was it great to see Justin onstage again, but it was an amazing way to close out the rough year of 2020 with hope and connection.
We can’t lie, we were definitely curious about the lead-up to the concert and how it all came together, so this film is right up our alley! We loved seeing Justin’s Instagram posts of rehearsals, and Justin Bieber: Our World will show even more rehearsal footage, as well as the construction of the stage and how the team dealt with safety protocols regarding COVID-19. And perhaps the most exciting part, the film also features self-shot footage of Justin and his wife, Hailey Baldwin Bieber.
Justin Bieber + Documentaries
And Justin is no stranger to the world of documentaries. In 2011, his Never Say Never movie was a massive hit that followed his rise from a normal kid in Canada to a global pop superstar. (We still have our 3D glasses, shh, don’t tell).
Later, he worked with Jon M. Chu again on Justin Bieber’s Believe in 2013. Then in 2020, Justin Bieber: Seasons followed the process of making his first album since 2015, Changes.
Justin and Michael D. Ratner have also worked together previously, on the ‘Intentions’ music video and on Justin Bieber: Seasons. Plus, the director was behind Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, which premiered at SXSW. Judging by what we’ve already seen of Ratner’s work, this new documentary is going to be an intimate, personal look into Justin’s life and work as one of the most iconic musicians of our generation.
What makes Justin so great is not just his astounding musical abilities – of which there are many in his jack-of-all-trades repertoire – but how personable he is. He began his career as the ultra-charming baby-faced kid with the hair flip and progressed through growing up in the public eye with raw honesty and humility. Today, he’s the face of hope and unflinching kindness, with a love for music and performing that is authentic and inspiring. We were introduced to all of these facets of his personality with his previous documentaries, and we have no doubt that Justin Bieber: Our World will be another layer of love between Justin and Beliebers. After all, by now, if you’re not a Belieber, what are you doing?
Look out for Justin Bieber: Our World premiering worldwide in over 240 countries on October 8! It’ll be the perfect thing to watch to get ready for a tour in 2022!
