Between GRAMMY nominations, ‘Streets’ going viral on TikTok, performing at Global Citizen, hosting the Video Music Awards, and releasing her debut album, 2021 was truly the year of Doja Cat. Now, she’s become the first rapper (and second artist overall) in history to land three singles in the top 10 of Top 40 radio!
Let’s take a trip to Planet Her and check out the songs that made this feat possible!
‘You Right’ (Feat. The Weeknd)
‘You Right’ was one of the most anticipated songs on the Planet Her album because of its undeniable star power. Doja and The Weeknd already found success with a collaborative remix of his track ‘In Your Eyes,’ and ‘You Right’ feels like a long-awaited reunion for two of modern pop’s biggest icons!
Sitting pretty at #6 on the Top 40 this week, ‘You Right’ is a scandalous story of Doja falling for someone new when she’s already in a relationship. It’s raw and evocative, describing forbidden love over a beat you won’t be able to get out of your head.
‘Kiss Me More’ (Feat. SZA)
Bringing together two of our favorite ladies in music, ‘Kiss Me More’ is a flirty invitation for a lover to show Doja and SZA more affection! Their gorgeous vocals blend so well together, making ‘Kiss Me More’ the standout duet we never knew we needed. It comes right behind ‘You Right’ to land at #7 on the Top 40.
We’re not sure what’s more iconic: the song itself or its intergalactic music video that sees Doja and SZA posing in a pink desert, and sitting in a tree before hanging out to play video games.
The girls also teamed up to bring ‘Kiss Me More’ to the Billboard Music Awards stage earlier this year!
‘Need to Know’
The trap-tinged ‘Need to Know’ closes out the list at #10 on the Top 40, showing off Doja’s confidence with sultry vocals and fun harmonies that add more dimension. Funnily, the flirty track wasn’t actually meant to be a single – even though it’s one of our faves on Planet Her! It was meant to be a buzz song to get hype going before she was ready to promote the next official single, which wound up being ‘You Right:’
Doja chose ‘Need to Know’ as one of the four songs she sang for a special performance series in partnership with Vevo:
