Binge-Worthy Buzz: Want To Get Into Sci-Fi? We Got You!

Hello, honeybees, and welcome to the latest edition of Binge-Worthy Buzz, our weekly series where we recommend a list of new things to watch to all of you movies and TV shows lovers, like us. This week, we’re taking you away from our reality and into the wonderful world of science fiction! Considering how many awesome sci-fi movies and shows have come out recently, this edition of Binge-Worthy Buzz shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Now, let’s dive in!

Star Trek

Before we start, let’s make one thing clear: yes, we also love Star Wars and definitely think everyone should watch all of it as well, but we also feel like Star Trek doesn’t get talked about as much and its universe deserves some love too! Whether you want to start with the movies that came out in the 2000s, any of the TV shows focused on the U.S.S. Enterprise, such as The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine, or even go all the way back to the original show from the 1960s, we promise you’ll love this whole universe and all its unique characters. And if you’re as much of a nerd as we are, you’ll also love seeing how each Star Trek show or movie reflects the era it came out in from the characterization to the topics discussed in episodes.

Doctor Who

Number two on our list is another timeless classic: Doctor Who. There’s just something about a nerdy alien who travels in a blue box and reminds everyone that intelligence and kindness beat violence any day. The show had its first run from 1963 to 1989 and was brought back in 2005 with a new actor playing The Doctor and new stories to tell, but still referencing some elements from the original series. The cool thing about this show (aside from all the time traveling and alien planets) is how it keeps reinventing itself over time, with new stories, new companions, and new actors playing the title character. We’ve had 13 Doctors so far and if we have any say in it, there will be many more in the future because we’re not ready to let go of this comfort show filled with so much love. And strange aliens.

Black Mirror

Yep, we’re going there. If your thing is “in how many ways can technology mess up our lives?” this is a show you should definitely check out if you haven’t already. The name Black Mirror literally came from the way the screen of our phones looks. It’s almost like a horror movie kind of approach to sci-fi and technology in general, but it’s so good! And since this show has individual stories for each episode, you can choose what order to watch them in.

Men In Black

Another classic. If you’re thinking of the 1997 movie, at least. And yes, we love the more recent version with Thor and Valkyrie… sorry, we mean Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. But if you want the full experience of watching the Men In Black movies, you should probably start with the first three with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and then watch the more recent one. But no matter the order, all these movies have one thing in common: they’re all great for when you need a good laugh and some aliens to wipe the stress from your life.

Dune

We’ve talked about the classic sci-fi everyone should know, but we’re ending the list with Dune, a new movie starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. If you have the chance to go to a theatre to watch this, you definitely should. Timothée plays a “gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding.” Mixing sci-fi, adventure, and a bit of a coming-of-age vibe, Dune has the potential to be one of the most successful movies of the year.

And this is the end of this week’s Binge-Worthy Buzz! We hope you’ve enjoyed it and stay around to read more! But before you go, what are you checking out off this list first? If you want, you can comment your thoughts or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP!
