Travis Barker is one of the most talented drummers and producers around, and throughout 2021, he helped usher in a new era of bringing rock to the mainstream! After he teamed up with Machine Gun Kelly for the amazing Tickets to My Downfall last year, we’re so glad he’s expanding and working with even more artists. Here are seven Travis-assisted collabs we loved this year!
grandson – ‘Drop Dead’ Feat. Kesha And Travis Barker
Maybe the most unexpected trio of all time, but we’re so glad grandson recruited Kesha and Travis for ‘Drop Dead!’ Accented with an acoustic guitar, the song discusses the importance of persevering through hard times, whether it’s a time when you’re feeling “numb inside” or when you’re feeling more confident.
Nessa Barrett – ‘la di die’ Feat. jxdn
Not only are Nessa and jxdn one of our favorite power couples, but they’re one of our favorite musical duos thanks to some production and writing help from Travis! ‘la di die’ is an edgy anthem about pursuing your dreams and pushing through “fake love, fake friends” to get there. This song will be our theme song going into 2022!
Machine Gun Kelly – ‘papercuts’
As if the triumphant Tickets to My Downfall wasn’t amazing enough, MGK grabbed Travis to write and produce on his born with horns album! Lead single ‘papercuts’ documents Kells’ experience with fame, fake friends, and media criticism, making it the perfect follow-up to his biggest era to date.
WILLOW And Avril Lavigne – ‘G R O W’ Feat. Travis Barker
The pop-punk power on this track is unmatched! After joining forces on the smash hit ‘t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l,’ WILLOW and Travis came back together for ‘G R O W,’ this time inviting the 2000s emo queen that is Avril to the party. We at THP love the empowering message on ‘G R O W,’ not to mention its awesome, catchy sound!
blackbear – ‘imu’ Feat. Travis Barker
A bittersweet song about a breakup, ‘imu’ sees blackbear hoping to reconnect with an ex he misses while admitting he knows it’s over and that the ex wants to be alone right now. It’s a more tender side of blackbear than we’ve heard on hits like ‘hot girl bummer’ and ‘my ex’s best friend’ with Machine Gun Kelly, and we love that Travis could have a hand in such a vulnerable song!
Bebe Rexha – ‘Break My Heart Myself’ Feat. Travis Barker
Name a more iconic opening line than “Hello, my name is Stevie / Actually I’m lyin’, it’s really Bebe,” we’ll wait. ‘Break My Heart Myself’ describes Bebe’s experiences with mental illness and anxiety, and we at THP love her honesty in her lyrics! Travis’ drumming is the icing on the already-rocking cake.
Tyler Posey – ‘Shut Up’ Feat. Phem And Travis Barker
As Tyler’s solo musical debut, ‘Shut Up’ showed off just how perfect his voice is for the pop-punk sound. Ironically, the angsty breakup song is a duet with his girlfriend, fellow artist Phem, accented by Travis’ signature drumming and emotive songwriting.
