YUNGBLUD is finally coming back to the states with his massive Life On Mars Tour next year! And let us tell you, the lineup is stacked. Between Charlotte Sands, Poutyface, and UPSAHL, we don’t know whose set we’re most excited for. Until it’s time for that power squad to take the stage, we’re gonna have their songs on repeat. If you want to join in the hype, here are some of our recommendations!
YUNGBLUD – ‘mars’
It’d be a sin not to include the source of the tour’s name on this list! ‘mars’ is one of our favorite YUNGBLUD songs to date, thanks to its standout alt-rock sound and the sweet message behind it. The track is dedicated to his transgender fans, inspired by a story one fan told him about how he helped her parents learn to accept her for who she is. He explained to Apple Music:
It’s about a young trans girl I met in Maryland. She told me that her parents couldn’t fathom the idea of her being trans. They thought it was just some sort of phase. All she wanted to do was get her parents to a YUNGBLUD show, because maybe they’d see other people like her. So she saved up and came with her parents. They saw the passion, the energy, the noise, and the sheer reluctance to be anything other than who [my fans] are, and they accepted her as their baby girl.
Charlotte Sands – ‘All My Friends Are Falling In Love’
We at THP love Charlotte Sands’ rocker aesthetic that still integrates the best, most catchy elements of pop music! ‘All My Friends Are Falling In Love’ sees her missing an ex while her friends are having fun with their partners, with a cool contrast and an 808 that hits just right throughout the song.
YUNGBLUD – ‘fleabag’
The grunge-inspired ‘fleabag’ is YUNGBLUD’s latest single, describing feelings of loneliness when you’re not accepted for who you are. It’s an angsty call for individuality and self-expression, summing up everything he’s about! We love that he’s never afraid to speak his mind or call out injustices.
Poutyface – ‘HEY NEIGHBOR!’
Combining just enough humor with angsty vocals and cool guitar sounds, ‘HEY NEIGHBOR’ is the perfect summary of Poutyface’s unique vision and aesthetic. The song sees her calling out a neighbor who doesn’t respect her for who she is, and even if it’s not a neighbor bringing you down, it’s really cathartic to yell these lyrics when someone doubts you.
UPSAHL – ‘People I Don’t Like’
Everyone’s been in an uncomfortable situation where they’re surrounded by strangers, but UPSAHL makes it something fun on ‘People I Don’t Like!’ We at THP love the slick bassline and vivid, detailed lyrics that bring the party setting to life. Aside from making her own music, UPSAHL also has writing credits on hits like Dua Lipa’s ‘Good in Bed’ and Anne-Marie and Little Mix’s ‘Kiss My (Uh Oh).’
YUNGBLUD – ‘parents’
Finally, the song that boosted YUNGBLUD to global stardom! ‘parents’ is a celebration of individuality and a criticism of closed-minded authority in one energetic package. It’s the perfect mix of heartfelt lyrics and scathing parody, making fun of social expectations and those who think they can tell others who to be.
