‘She’s Kinda Hot’ As Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children By Ransom Riggs

“They say we’re losers and we’re alright with that
We are the leaders of the not coming backs
But we’re alright though”

She’s Kinda Hot‘ is a perfect anthem for a group of outcasts uniting together, and tell us, is there a better book that fits this song than Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children? Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children tells the story of a group of magical kids who couldn’t fit in anywhere in society becoming a big, beautiful family with Miss Peregrine’s help, just like our four Aussie boys sing in the song. We see our main character, Jacob, struggle to gain the confidence to forge his own path. He feels as if he has no control over his life, and he keeps feeling that way until he meets other kids at Miss Peregrine’s Home. However, through the friendship of other misfits, he realizes that they are “alright, though,” and that the main issue is society itself.

‘Social Casualty’ As I’ll Be The One By Lyla Lee

“Had enough of what they say
Sick and tired of all their games,
Stand up and sing it with me now”

Speaking of corrupted social standards, can we all agree that ‘Social Casualty’ is an underappreciated hit? Excuse us, but if we’re going to make a list of 5SOS songs as books, we’ve got to include this one, and I’ll Be The One is the perfect match! Skye, our main character, has been subjected to numerous insults as a result of her weight, but she had had enough. Her greatest ambition is to become a K-Pop star, but nobody believes she can do it, especially in the K-POP industry, because “fat girls don’t fit in.” Skye’s confidence and incredible talent, on the other hand, make it difficult to stop her. Nobody can turn her into “another social casualty.”

‘Ghost Of You’ As You’ve Reached Sam By Dustin Thao

Dancing through our house
With the ghost of you”

Ouch. We’re sorry, but we couldn’t resist including 5SOS’s lyrical masterpiece on our list. Losing someone you care about is heartbreaking, and grief is not as pretty as it is portrayed in the movies. Well, 5 Seconds Of Summer understood the assignment and came up with an amazing song like ‘Ghost Of You.’ However, there is one more person who did a great job as well: Dustin Thao. Julia loses it after Julie’s boyfriend, Sam, passes out when they both have their entire lives planned out. As she tries to cope with her grief, she is transforming into someone she does not recognize. She is avoiding everyone she knows, but one day she calls Sam, only to hear his voice on voice mail again. But what happens now that Sam has picked up the phone?

‘Broken Home’ As Clap When You Land By Elizabeth Acevedo

“You’ve gotta let it go, you’re losing all your hope
Nothing left to hold, locked out in the cold
You painted memories then washed out all the scenes
I’m stuck in between a nightmare and lost dreams”

Please do not sue us for including ‘Broken Home’ immediately following ‘Ghost Of You.’ ‘Broken Home,’ indeed, is one of 5SOS’s most emotional songs. It is about family issues and parental divorce, but what if we look at it from a different angle? What about two sisters who had no idea each other existed until their father died? Her father is Yahaira’s hero, and Camino looks forward to the summer because it is the only time she gets to see him. However, the plane crashes one summer while her father is on his way to visit Camino. Their father is no longer with them, but they have found each other. However, grief is not an easy thing to deal with, especially when you know you are not alone with a brand new person in this ‘Broken Home.’

‘Fly Away’ As The Serpent King By Jeff Zentner

“Counting down these seconds
Jumping off these fences
Find another place to start again
The cracks in the sidewalk
I’m over all the small talk
Taking off like fire in the wind”

We’ve all fantasized about fleeing our small-town lives and starting over somewhere new, so we can all relate to ‘Fly Away’ to some extent. Believe us when we say that three best friends from The Serpent King would enjoy this song. The novel is set in a small, rural town in Tennessee. Three best friends, three different lives, but one dream: to escape their current situation and start over. However, growing up can sometimes feel like an end rather than a beginning, and that, my friend, is another struggle. In any case, you’ll enjoy The Serpent King just as much as you do ‘Fly Away.’

‘Beside You’ As Everything, Everything By Nicola Yoon

“When we both fall asleep, underneath the same sky
To the beat of our hearts at the same time
So close but so far away
Can you hear me?”

Without a doubt, ‘Beside You’ is one of those songs that has the same effect no matter how many times you listen to it. It never fails to break your heart. This is why it is a must-have for our 5SOS songs as books list, which, to be honest, took an emotional turn. With its heartbreaking plot, Everything, Everything is a perfect representation of ‘Beside You.’ Maddy, our main character, has a rare disease called Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, which means her immune system is so weak that it can’t even fight minor illnesses. As a result, Maddy is unable to go outside and must instead observe the world through her windows. However, Maddy falls in love when a truck for new neighbors arrives one day. She is desperate to get to know him despite her inability to communicate with him. “Falling asleep under the same sky” is not enough when all she wants is to be beside him.

‘Story Of Another Us’ As The Song Of Achilles By Madeline Miller

“I got a long term plan with short term fixes
And a wasted heart that just eclipses
And I push my luck and trust the dust enough
That’s the story of another us”

Image Source: The Courtesy of Ecco

We will defend ‘Story Of Another Us’ rights in this house until our last breath, just as Patroclus did for Achilles. Oops, our apologies. From Homer’s Iliad, we all know the story of Achilles and Patroclus: Achilles is the strongest Greek hero in the Trojan War, and Patroclus is “his loyal best friend,” ahem. Even though we all knew how the story ended, we wished Madeline Miller’s retelling of The Song Of Achilles was about another Achilles and Patroclus. However, we are not always powerful enough to change the course of history. This book is a must-read if you enjoy the “wrong person, wrong time” trope and ‘Story Of Another Us.’

‘Safety Pin’ As Down Comes The Night By Allison Saft

“Once I got a little taste
Now I’m addicted to your fix
Oh yeah, this time, maybe this time
Two wrongs make it right”

‘Safety Pin’ is an amazing song that represents two broken people trying to cure each other. It literally tells us the story of two outcasts with a lot of mistakes trying to “patch up all the holes.” Well, so does Down Comes The Night! Wren has the power of magic, but after a tiny mistake, she loses everything and her ticket to salvation comes from Hal, who is deadly sick and needs to be cured. The problem is that Hal, as the Reaper of Vesria, is Wren’s kingdom’s number one enemy, also requires salvation. Fortunately, it doesn’t take long for them to realize they need each other to be free of their sins.

“Every night I almost call you
Just to say it always will be you
Wherever you are”

We love this song so much, right? RIGHT?! Yes, we thought so, good. From a young age, 5SOS experienced the pain of broken relationships due to long-distance. As a result, we ended up with songs like this. The theme of Colleen Hoover’s November 9 is similar. Fallon and Ben meet and are immediately attracted to each other, but Fallon is about to relocate to another state. So they spend Fallon’s final day in Los Angeles together, and they realize they can’t truly say “goodbye” to each other. Instead, they make an agreement. They will meet every year on November 9th. However, there are some ground rules, the most important of which is that they cannot contact each other except on this one day. Consider how many nights they were on the verge of calling each other.

At least that’s what her parents assume”

What a song ‘Good Girls’ is, right? It will stay as a bop forever. Sorry, we don’t make the rules. Well, we all know what is the song about but we are going to twist the story in here just a little bit. Our antagonist Pip is one of the ‘Good Girls,’ but for real, “a straight-A student.” She decides to open a closed case, one that shook everyone in Fairview five years ago, for her senior project. The case revolves around the murder of a popular high school student, Andie, by her boyfriend, but Pip is skeptical that this is the case. So she starts digging to find answers to all of her questions, but solving the crime will not be easy.
