21. NYC. If I don't have coffee: I'm at a…
28-year old New York native Marlon Craft is at his core the heart of New York City. Poetically fusing rap with jazz, his set at Bowery Ballroom showcased a true advantage. Tapping into the rap scene in NYC has been our new goal. And trust us here at THP: this guy is going to be huge.
2021 was the year that Marlon Craft truly came into their sound and kept it pushing. We saw the release of HOMECOURT ADVANTAGE vol. 1 in follow-up to 2020’s How We Intended. But don’t get it twisted: the New York native had a lot to say between. The SPACE and Work from Home EPs capture Craft’s style as it came into its own: socially conscious and having fun with it.
The night began with hit track ‘Halal’ where we saw Craft bursting out onto the stage with an energy that rivals the powerful opening keys and chorus, it was clear the night was not for the faint of heart.
Standouts of the night included a callback to debut album Funhouse Mirror, with close friends Evan Crommett and Ricky Motional performing their collaboration ‘Personal.’ Craft kept the audience guessing on where the night was heading next. By weaving the high-energy anthem ‘Oh Lord’ with the reflective ‘Back to Jame-o’ he bolsters confidence celebrated in the Big Apple and beyond.
Marlon Craft is not only a storyteller at heart, he’s a name you’ll remember.
