Hello, honeybees, and welcome to the latest edition of Binge-Worthy Buzz, our weekly series where we recommend a list of new things to watch to all movies and TV shows lovers, like us. We have lots of awesome shows to talk about this week, so let’s goooo!
West Side Story
We have a few things for the musical lovers this week, but of course, we’d start with West Side Story. Steven Spielberg’s reboot of the classic 1961 movie is one that many fans have been waiting for forever. Something about a great director being behind a new version of a beloved musical just got us freaking out! And in case you never had the pleasure of watching the stage musical or the original movie, the short version of the story is: Maria and Tony meet and fall in love, but they have one huge problem: Tony and Maria’s brother, Bernardo, are members of rival gangs. Yes, this is pretty much Romeo and Juliet if they were teenagers in the 60s. With show tunes. We can’t wait for December 10th to watch it in theatres.
Marvel’s last show of the year is here, baby! Hawkeye brings back one of the original six Avengers, Clint Barton, after the Blip has come and gone and now all he wants is peace and quiet. And then of course that doesn’t happen. Especially not after Kate Bishop enters his life. In the comics, Kate takes the mantle of Hawkeye from Clint, so it’s safe to assume that’s what’ll happen in the show too (which also adds to the theory that Marvel is setting up a project related to the Young Avengers, but that’s an article for another day). But how we’ll get to Kate as Hawkeye is what we’re looking forward to the most.
The Beatles: Get Back
The end of November brought us another great documentary on actual music royalty: the Beatles. Available on Disney+, The Beatles: Get Back is a three-part documentary narrating the final days of one of the world’s greatest bands as they work on the album ‘Let It Be’. But only three episodes, you ask? Well, three episodes that are over two hours long each, meaning we’re looking at almost eight hours of footage. Not shocking when you learn Peter Jackson directed it. Yep, the same guy who directed Lord of the Rings.
Candified: Home For The Holidays
Fair warning: Hulu has a lot of new stuff coming. A new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The New York Times Presents and All Rise, but the one we really want to binge-watch first is Candified: Home for the Holidays. It’s almost as if we were seeing the architects responsible for building the witch’s house in Hänsel and Gretel. Yep, you heard that right, the team of candy artists led by Jackie Sorkin has the challenge of building a house made of candy. Actual dream come true.
Tick, Tick… BOOM!
And circling right back to musicals, we’re closing this list with Tick, Tick… BOOM!, a musical about a famous writer of musicals. Let us explain. This musical is the story of Jonathan Larsson, yes, the dude who wrote Rent. But Tick, Tick… BOOM! is the story before Rent, before Jonathan Larsson became the icon of musical theater he is now. Also, Andrew Garfield looks so much like Jonathan himself, we forgot we weren’t seeing actual footage of him in the 90s for a few seconds. Thank you, Netflix, for this masterpiece.
And this is the end of this week’s Binge-Worthy Buzz! We hope you’ve enjoyed it and stay around to read more! If you want, you can always comment your thoughts or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP!
