To put it simply 2021 was the year of Taylor Swift. There was no stopping the songstress from The Grammy’s to the two flawless albums she put out. She proved time and time again that re-recording and owning her music was both a smart business move and a chance to breathe new life into songs that both Taylor Swift and her fans hold near and dear. She won awards, was featured on friends’ records, and showed the world that there is no slowing down and no ceiling to the pinnacles she will continue to reach.
We’re ready to break down our favorite Taylor Swift moments of 2021!
While we felt Taylor Swift should have swept at the 2021 Grammys, they at least got the album of the year right when they gave it to folklore. Seeing Taylor Swift on stage with Jack and Aaron, two of our favorite collaborators of hers, just made us beam with pride. Folklore was the most ethereal, beautiful, essential record for so many people last year. So the award was only fitting. And come on, that performance! We are still not over getting to see Aaron, Jack, and Taylor perform ‘august.’
Red (Taylor’s Version)
We could not say enough about Red (Taylor’s Version). This record has made us feel like we’re not alone like we’ve all been broken in the same way as Taylor Swift since 2012, and now we get the version that was always intended. Owned by Taylor, with all 30 songs, including the 10–minute version of the fan-favorite track, All Too Well. This record feels like the warmest hug, which we all needed this time of year.
‘All Too Well’ Short Film
All Too Well: The Short Film needed its own section, it’s that good. The casting of Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien was beyond perfect. And of course, the directing styling of Taylor Swift blew us away, and we’re convinced there’s nothing she can’t do. All Too Well is arguably one of the best songs in Taylor Swift’s discography, and somehow, this video was able to live up to the undying love we have for this beautifully heartbreaking song.
If you need us we’ll be rewatching and crying, long into the new year.
Fearless (Taylor’s Version)
Fearless takes us right back to middle/high school, right back to first loves, and all the intense emotions that go along with that. Now that we’re in our 20s, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) allows us to work through the same intense emotions all over again. Getting to revisit Fearless has been one of the biggest joys of the year for us. It’s crystal clear how much this record means both to fans and Taylor Swift herself.
How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?
We hope that Aaron Dessner, Justin Vernon, and Taylor Swift keep making music together forever. Taylor is featured on two tracks, ‘Birch’ and ‘Renegade.’ ‘Renegade’ is very Taylor Swift foreword and feels like it came straight off of evermore. Easily, How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? is one of our absolute favorite albums of the year. These three make pure magic when their skills combine.
Global Icon Award – Brits
It is no surprise to us that Taylor Swift, the biggest artist in the world, was given a Global Icon Award. This night was a feast for swifties, from how happy and carefree Taylor seemed, to her finally meeting Olivia Rodrigo and breaking the internet. The entire speech perfectly shows why Taylor Swift will forever and always be an icon in our eyes.
Saturday Night Live
Taylor Swift has been on SNL before, but her latest appearance may just top them all! We got the first televised performance of ‘All Too Well’ (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault), and we got Taylor in a skit with Pete Davidson. Talk about feeling like we hit a goldmine!
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
To round off the year, Taylor Swift inducted Carole King, an all-time great, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Can you say legendary?! She is on a completely different playing field than anyone else. She’s in the company of the greatest icons of all time. Her impact after the performance she gave and the praise she was given at this event is non-debatable.
