Is there anything more exciting than a comeback from one of the biggest stars in music? We think not! And we at THP are buzzing about the news that The Weeknd is finally dropping the highly-anticipated follow-up to After Hours. We’ve had ‘Take My Breath’ and his Post Malone collab ‘One Right Now’ on repeat for months, so we can’t wait to get some new material for our playlists. If you’re just as pumped as we are, here’s everything you need to know about Dawn FM!
Walking into this new era like…
The Weeknd finally announced the album on Monday, January 3rd, after months of suspense and cryptically insisting that “the dawn is coming!” It will come out on Friday, January 7th, and we think this strategy was pretty clever. With this method, he gets all the hype and excitement of a surprise album drop while also getting a few days to promote the album and get more listeners onboard.
On Thursday or Friday, depending where in the world you are, The Weeknd will take to Amazon Music’s Twitch channel and the Amazon Music app for an exclusive listening party, letting you listen to the album for the first time in a radio-like format, playing on the Dawn FM concept. You can tune into the 103.5 Dawn FM show at 9 pm PST on Thursday night! Afterward, you can check out limited-edition merch exclusively on Amazon.
The power of the 103.5 Dawn FM experience is that maximum fulfillment comes when all who hear it are tuned in at the same time.
We got our first taste of the Dawn FM era with a one-minute trailer that describes the album as a “new sonic universe from the mind of The Weeknd.” Much of the video follows the same character as the stunning ‘Take My Breath’ video, so we’re excited to see how his story unfolds throughout the record. It also introduces us to the older man who appears on the album cover (more on that later).
Dawn FM will deliver 16 new songs, including a new version of the lead single ‘Take My Breath!’ Even without an official feature, ‘Sacrifice’ is still star-studded with production credits including Calvin Harris, Max Martin, Metro Boomin, and Swedish House Mafia according to Genius. Based on the album teaser, we can also expect Oneohtrix Point Never (who worked on three After Hours tracks) to make an appearance, so we’re excited to see what song he pops up on. Here’s every song we’ll get to hear when Dawn FM drops:
- ‘Dawn FM’ feat. Jim Carrey
- ‘How Do I Make You Love Me?’
- ‘Take My Breath (Extended Version)’
- ‘A Tale’ feat. Quincy Jones
- ‘Out of Time’
- ‘Here We Go…Again’ feat. Tyler, The Creator
- ‘Best Friends’
- ‘Is There Someone Else?’
- ‘Starry Eyes’
- ‘Every Angel Is Terrifying’
- ‘Don’t Break My Heart’
- ‘I Heard You’re Married’ feat. Lil Wayne
- ‘Less Than Zero’
- ‘Phantom Regret’ feat. Jim Carrey
The Cover Art
Just like how he became a plastic-surgeried Vegas aficionado for his After Hours era, The Weeknd is rocking new prosthetics to get into character for Dawn FM! This time, as an older version of himself that may even be the After Hours character after a few decades. We can’t wait to learn more about the character and see how he fits into the Dawn FM storyline.
The Weeknd is also offering two alternate covers on his merch store, and we love the sci-fi vibes they offer!
