Alesso & Katy Perry – ‘When I’m Gone’

After dropping the breakup anthem ‘When I’m Gone’ last month, Alesso and Katy Perry kicked off the new year with a stunning music video! We love the song’s confidence in the face of something that can be so tragic, with Katy offering the ultimate motivation to push through a relationship’s end over some of Alesso’s most sleek production to date. It’s the perfect soundtrack to a night out trying to distract yourself from the sadness of a breakup or to boost your mood while you’re getting ready for a day of errands.

Avril Lavigne – ‘Love It When You Hate Me’ Feat. blackbear

Avril Lavigne has recently been killing it in the collab department, between working with artists like WILLOW and Travis Barker. Now she’s recruiting another one of our faves with the blackbear-assisted ‘Love It When You Hate Me!’ Avril really nails the ups and downs of a confusing relationship while reclaiming her pop-punk throne on this 808-tinged track. It makes us even more excited for her new album, Love Sux, due next month!

Donna Missal – ‘insecure’

With production by Sega Bodega and Mura Masa, ‘insecure’ is one of the unique songs we’ve heard this year! There’s a sense of frustration and sadness over a frantic beat, showcasing the intensity of Donna’s feelings while letting her vocals be the main focus. We love the electronic elements that complement the beat and the layered vocals in the background.

It’s about fakeness and not wanting to be around it. I wrote the lyrics and melody to a click track when I was living in New York City over the winter. I was alone in the studio apartment I was renting, under the covers of a bed in the middle of the room. I set a tempo on my computer, tried a time signature that would stimulate melodic ideas that felt very new and challenging to me, without any music to guide me I felt very free and very alone at once. I was writing about separation, solitude, and emptiness a lot during this time.

Cordi Elba – ‘Holy Moley’

Cordi Elba is the super duo you never knew you needed, bringing together Lime Cordiale and Idris Elba for a quirky, nostalgic track! The song is about unhealthy drinking habits, but the fun production and space-themed lyrics make it light-hearted and funky enough to slip in on your favorite playlist without a second thought.

Idris wrote most of the lyrics, I know it’s about the danger of alcohol within the entertainment industry but I think there are lyrics that he didn’t completely explain to us. ‘Apple Crumble’ and ‘What’s Not To Like’ were a bit more literal, so I love the fact that even we don’t know the depth of this song.

Mae Mae – ‘Blemish’ Feat. The Colourist

Mae Mae just dropped her debut EP, Gummy Heart Eyes, and one of the standout tracks is her latest single. ‘Blemish’ is an indie-pop track with synth flourishes that make the song feel ethereal, like something you’d hear falling down the rabbit hole into Wonderland or while waiting in line at a thrilling new club in a big city. You need Mae Mae and her unique vision on your musical radar this year!

I really want to take you to different realms through my music. It can be danceable or chill at the same time, it’s always going to be unexpected, though.

Martin Jensen, Cheat Codes, & Theresa Rex – ‘Running’

Three incredible artists on one track? Yes, please! Martin Jensen, Cheat Codes, and Theresa Rex are a combo we never knew we needed, but now we can’t get enough. ‘Running’ is a gorgeous electropop song you’ll get stuck in your head after just one listen, describing the excitement that comes with a new relationship.

We are excited to kick off 2022 with ‘Running’ alongside our friends Martin and Theresa – we wanted to bring as much positivity and vibrance into the production and accomplish something anthemic! We hope everyone had a Happy New Year and are ready to hit the ground RUNNING in 2022.

The Knocks – ‘Walking On Water’ Feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

The Knocks are getting ready to release their third album later this year, and ‘Walking On Water’ is the perfect single to usher in this new era of their career. The track describes the importance of realizing that “real love feels like walking on water” while refusing to accept anything less from potential suitors. It’s a powerful reminder that you shouldn’t have to force happiness in a relationship or friendship, especially if you know it’s not meant for you.
