Redeeming Love is based on a bestselling novel by acclaimed romance American author Francine Sandra Rivers and has a faith-based love theme centered around Christianity. Francine is renowned for her Christian-themed historical romance novels, and Redeeming Love is no exception. With a compelling storyline, the movie follows the protagonist, Angel, who wrestles with the hardships and curves life throws her way, battling hate and self-loathing during the gold rush era, striving to survive. The movie unfolds into a poignant tale of a young couple’s tender, beautiful, and unwavering love as the man breaks through her high defensive walls. Although it is a clichéd romance, the movie is one part love, hurt, and the struggles it leads to and one part faith, self-love, redemption in the quest for forgiveness, balancing perfectly without being gimmicky or overly exploitative of rom-com tropes.
Redeeming Love revolves around themes such as sex trafficking, prostitution, abuse, etc., which might not appeal to all viewers, so keep that in mind if you decide to watch it. It transports you back to the great California Gold Rush of 1850 with its impressive setting and production. All the elements, from gorgeous cinematography to conservative towns and buildings to well-chosen, evocative costumes that capture the spirit of the unsettling time and struggles, are seamlessly woven together for the viewers to feel the terror and despair of the old days and empathize with the characters. It is heavy on dialogues and somewhat predictable and will serve the audience that appreciates a linear love story with a happy ending. Nevertheless, it’s a vulnerable, enjoyable movie to watch, and we definitely recommend it.
Directed By: D.J. Caruso
Starring: Abigail Cowen, Tom Lewis, Logan Marshall Green, Famke Janssen, Nina Dobrev, and Eric Dane.

As one of the most anticipated movies this year, Marry Me reunites the mesmerizing talent of Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson on the big screen for a playful, light-hearted romantic comedy movie. J-Lo portrays Kat Valdez, a pop music phenomenon with an enviable style and charismatic aura about to tie the knot in front of a global audience of 20 million people. As she prepares to say her vows, she learns about her fiancé’s infidelity, and in an impulsive move with loads of misunderstandings, she chooses to marry a stranger in the crowd. As a whim turns into a beautiful romance, a series of whirlwind adventures unfold that promise to give you tingles and make you laugh until you cry.
Special mention for the bedazzling, exquisite, and lavish wedding gown J-Lo is wearing, and she looks so stunning.
We don’t know about you, but we are intrigued to watch this improbable, cheesy love story between two people from wildly different worlds. While the idea seems slightly far-fetched, yet not impossible and definitely very appealing, feeding our fairytale love dreams. It would be interesting to see how a supernova with a lavish lifestyle would align with a geeky math teacher’s lifestyle, aspirations, and the other way around, as both are on the quest for real love. Although the universe conspired to bring them together, we are intrigued to know how they will overcome their differences, bridge the gap and build their castle of love for life.
Directed By: Kat Coiro
Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wison, Utkarsha Ambudkar, John Bradley, Michelle Buteau, Chloe Coleman, John Bradley, Sarah Silverman, and more.
Streaming On: In theatres and available to stream on Peacock from February 11.
I Want You Back
I Want You Back is an Amazon Original Movie about a duo, thirty-something and newly broken-hearted with fresh wounds of hurt and despair. Recollecting the broken pieces of their shattered hearts, they quickly bond after their partners abruptly dumped them and began dating again. Feeling sorry for themselves and fearful of having to start over their love lives, they hatch a plan to sabotage those couples and win them back, whatever it takes. As much as this sounds brave at first, it turns into hilarious situations as their plans backfire, although we are curious to see how it all ends. It sounds like a typical romantic comedy movie trope, but with a delightful flair of unique and exciting twists and adventures coupled with an assured laughter dose that’s intriguing, entertaining, and worth checking out. Would you like to join us this Valentine’s weekend for the romantic movie marathon, unless you have other plans… ahem!

Downton Abbey: A New Era
Prepare yourself for the new era in Downton Abbey with the return of the Crawleys, their servants, and the saga continues. The forthcoming movie is a sequel to the hit Downtown Abbey (2019) and a spin-off of the highly-acclaimed British historical drama TV series of the same title. The series, which takes place on the fictional estate of Downton Abbey between 1912 and 1926, revolves around the aristocratic Crawley family and their staff and recounts historical events of the era. However, the forthcoming movie takes place in 1927, as the modern age slowly commences, and the Crawleys will attempt to adapt to the changing times. The teaser hinted at the King and Queen visiting the family and a possible wedding sequence (or, perhaps two), and blossoming romances but left us with more questions than answers. We bet you have no idea how thrilled we are to watch this engrossing, entangled, and enthralling latest segment of the epic tale replete with royalty, romance, and drama. Like us, if you enjoy period dramas with an almost-authentic setting, you’ll have an entertaining experience reminiscent of 20th-century opulence and norms with a hint of modernity.
Directed By: Simon Curtis
Starring: Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Penelope Wilton, Elizabeth McGovern, Dominic West
Streaming On: In theatres- May 20 (U.S.) and April 29 (UK)
The tables have turned, and a long-awaited dream was fulfilled with the release of Bros, which will go down in history in sparkling, bold golden letters. Bros is the first mainstream romantic comedy movie in Hollywood exclusively starring LGBTQ actors. It doesn’t end there, however. In addition to playing queer characters, these actors will also portray heterosexual characters, which is tremendously impressive and well-deserving of praise, and something that didn’t happen before. The plot revolves around two gay men who may or may not be… but definitely are… falling for each other but are too afraid to confess and admit their feelings to themselves. They’re also too busy, and did we mention that they’re commitment-phobic as well? Well, we already have enough spice to watch this swoon-worthy, sweet, fun, and light-hearted romantic comedy and find out what happens to their love story. We bet this is going to sweep you off your feet.
Directed By: Nicholas Stoller
Starring: Billy Eichner, Luke Macfarlane, Jim Rash, Eve Lindley, and more.
Streaming On: In theatres August 12.
Book of Love
Book of Love features a young, arrogant, and unsuccessful British writer, Henry, whose novel fails to sell anywhere, only to become a surprise number one bestseller in Mexico. Afterward, he travels to panoramic Mexico on a book tour with his alleged book translator and aspiring author, Maria, who has rewritten his book and spiced it up, transforming it into fiery, tempestuous erotica that doesn’t hold the essence of the original story. Although initially enraged, the British writer is bound to fall in love with his lady love… that’s how rom-coms ensue, right? Their initial disagreement and conflicts give rise to fun elements leading to a passionate romance. Book of Love is a cute love story sprinkled with cheesy romance and witty lines that will satisfy the audience. Watch this lightweight cheerful movie, and you won’t be disappointed unless you’re looking for wild twists and zest. So, go ahead and stream it now.

Her life becomes eerily complicated when she meets Cassidy, who reminds her of her younger self. Will she take a chance on life and try something new, or will she be content with the choices she made? Perhaps there’s a third dramatic angle awaiting us… who knows. Much is still to come about this movie – but since it is still a mystery, we’re curiously awaiting the teaser in hopes of a happy ending. Even so, we know that this duo translates to success, so let’s see what they have in store for us.

Ticket To Paradise
Ticket to Paradise is a much-anticipated romantic comedy movie starring the two most popular heartthrobs, George Clooney and Julia Roberts. It is no secret that we love rom-coms, so if you’re anything like us, this movie will be your mainstay. In the movie, the duo portrays a divorced couple going to Bali to stop their daughter from getting hitched abruptly to a local, eh falling in love at first sight (if only that happens… all you romantic nerds). They want to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they did about 25 years ago. We’re eager to learn what their mistakes were and where this whirlwind adventure will lead, so sit back and wait for the release, just as we will with our popcorn and coke! No, don’t look at us, we don’t share popcorn in this house…

Would you like to see a musical? We certainly would. Cyrano takes inspiration from the 19th-century play Cyrano de Bergerac. In this musical adaptation, the main character is a talented poet who fears approaching the woman he loves, believing their social standing, class, and appearances will separate them forever. As Roxanne begins to fall in love with someone else, he conspires to help him win her over with his poems to reunite the two lovers. How will things turn out? Will he dare to try to win her love, or will he let her go? This has left us with so many questions, the answers we seek. The pandemic postponed its release after it premiered at the 48th Telluride Film Festival in 2021, despite gathering positive reviews and a Golden Globe nomination. We are definitely watching this romantic musical drama this month to find out who gets the girl. Will you be joining us?
Directed By: Joe Wright
Starring: Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Ben Mendelsohn, Bashir Salahuddin
Available On: In theaters from February 25 (UK & US) and April 8 (India)

Thor: Love And Thunder
The God of Thunder is back, yes, your favorite Thor Odinson. And before you say this is another Marvel superhero movie, yes, we are aware. But it is also true that Thor is more romantic than most Avengers, right? It has been too long since we have seen Thor and Dr. Jane Foster together in the same frame, all love-struck for each other, and this time, even the title says it all: Thor: Love and Thunder. So, we are taking it with open arms. Chris Hemsworth returns with his lady love, Natalie Portman, aka Dr. Jane Foster, for the direct sequel to Thor Ragnork (2017). Thor will lose his ability to lift Mjolnir for the time being, and Jane, who is receiving cancer treatment, takes on the role of The Mighty Thor and gains her superpowers. Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame put Thor through a whirlwind of challenges; it looks as though Thor: Love and Thunder will do much of the same. Nevertheless, we are super thrilled to see our favorite pair back on the screen and meet a new superhero.
Directed By: Taika Waititi
Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and more.
Available On: In theatres July 8
Those who enjoy period dramas are in for a treat with this movie. Dakota Johnson stars as Anne Elliot in the upcoming romantic drama movie adaptation of the novel by Jane Austen, Persuasion, set during the Regency period. When we saw the picture below of her in the period costume, our hearts leaped with joy at the beauty and delicate innocence on her face, and it made us absolutely giddy with excitement for the movie. After the incredible success of Bridgerton, we are ready to swoon over this romantic period drama with a love triangle centered around Anne- a soft-hearted and intelligent girl who does not “conform” to societal beauty standards. Having broken off her engagement eight years ago, she meets her lost love again and begins contemplating rekindling their romance and chasing her dreams, which leads to affirming the power of love. You will have to wait until the release to find out what happens. Your stomach knots are palpable; we feel them too, just as you do.
Directed By: Carrie Cracknell
Starring: Dakota Johnson, Henry Golding, Cosmo Jarvis, Suki Waterhouse, Richard E. Grant, and more.

Your Place Or Mine
Two long-distance best friends, Debbie and Peter, have their lives radically altered by one decision; she decides to pursue a lifelong dream of hers and goes away while he volunteers to watch over her teenage son. For a week, they swap homes, reminiscent of another Netflix hit rom-com, The Holiday. However, it differs when they live in each other’s shoes and encounter life-altering situations filled with love, drama, and hilarious moments that will have you laughing till you cry. It will be fun to watch these two romantic, hunky heartthrobs reunite on the screen and bring us back to the days of fluffy, romantic movies. Can you imagine what might happen? If they realize this was one of their worst decisions, or perhaps confess their unsaid feelings hidden within them? Maybe there is a twisted climax awaiting us… we will have to wait and find out!
Directed By: Aline Brosh McKenna
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher, Jesse Williams, Wesley Kimmel, Zoe Chao, Steve Zahn, Tig Notaro.
Available On: Netflix- TBD
