Falling In Love With Calling Cadence’s New Single Is ‘Just The Way It Goes’

You know that feeling of finding a new band and going “yes, this is a good one?” Yeah, that’s the feeling we got when we heard the first few seconds of Calling Cadence’s new single, ‘Just The Way It Goes,’ play. But who is Calling Cadence, you ask? Calling Cadence is an LA band formed by Oscar Bugarin and Rae Cole, and let us tell ya, this duo makes magic when they sing together.

Who Are Calling Cadence?

Oscar and Rae describe their band as being “all about harmony,” and when you listen to their music, you can see why. Their voices are a match made in heaven, and that paired with their unique songwriting skills makes Calling Cadence something truly special. All of that wrapped up in beautiful melodies that mix classic rock with country influences makes one of the best bands we’ve seen in recent times.

But where did the name Calling Cadence even come from? To put it simply, it was inspired by Oscar’s time in the military. As he puts it, “When you’re playing live and people know your songs, it’s like you’re calling cadence in the military. There’s that connection — that call and response with your audience — that brings everyone together. And that’s what we hope to do with these songs.”

And while Oscar was being a guitarist in LA and serving in the military, Rae was growing up on stage and showing she was always meant to be a star. Before exploring the world of rock, folk, and pop, she was starring in theater productions in her hometown. Then these two met and the rest is history! And, boy, are we glad we’re getting to watch that history happen.

What’s Up With Their Music?

Their latest single, ‘Just The Way It Goes’ is, in their words, “a revenge song for anyone who has ever been ghosted.” And let’s face it, in the world of online dating, that can happen to anyone. But the cool thing about the song is that it’s not a sad look at being ghosted. It’s more like a “you know what, I’m done with this” type of deal. Also, yes, we’re totally adding this to our “songs to belt out to in the car” playlist.

Sound-wise, the song comes with very clear influences from Southern country and also classic rock, reminding us of music from the 70s and 80s. At the same time, the themes and the way Oscar and Rae mix and match elements from different genres make their sound more contemporary than ever. And that’s just talking about one song! We can’t wait to see the full range of their music in the spring when their debut album comes out.

Their upcoming album will include 15 tracks, three of which are already out and you should listen to immediately. And we are not done talking about this new album. Calling Cadence was 100% recorded, mixed, and mastered in analog tape. Yep, they went really old-school here, and we love it!
