While the group is currently on hiatus, ARASHI is a staple in J-Pop that every fan should know of. With a career that spans over two decades, the five-member group has a song for everyone, whether you like hype anthems or soft ballads. We would like to suggest their hit single ‘Love So Sweet’ as a starting point for you!

CHANMINA (ちゃんみな)

She is pop, she is rock, and she is hip-hop… she is CHANMINA! The hottest rising star is half-Japanese and half-South Korean and is taking over the world with her bold style. After featuring on tracks by Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation and Saweetie & Doja Cat‘s remix of ‘Best Friend,’ CHANMINA has gained a lot of new fans! We would like to recommend her self-love anthem ‘ 美人 (BIJIN)’ for you to check out!

Formed from the survival show Produce 101 Japan, JO1 has continued to grow, especially after their appearance at Mnet Asian Music Awards, where they also won Best New Asian Artist in 2020 and Best Asian Artist (Japan) in 2021! The group has released five single albums and one studio album filled with a diverse range of songs including ‘REAL,’ which we would like to recommend to you!

Part of the Japanese collective girl group, E-Girls, Flower consisted of members who were either exclusively vocalists or performers. Influenced by traditional Japanese aesthetics and elements, Flower’s music and style were more mature than their counterparts. A fun fact that not many might know is the group has collaborated with Brit-Pop group Little Mix and their song was nominated for Best Collaboration at 2015 MTV VMAJ. We would like to recommend ‘紅のドレス,’ translated to “deep red dress,” for you to check out!

SUPER★DRAGON is a nine-member boy group formed under Stardust Promotion as a part of their EBiDAN branch. The group takes heavy influences from rock and EDM music, creating a cool fusion sound in J-POP. If you want to hype yourself up for a fun-filled night out with friends, listen to SUPER★DRAGON, especially their haunting single ‘X,’ which is our top recommendation.

Kenshi Yonezu (米津玄師)

Even if you haven’t heard the name of this artist, we are pretty sure you have heard his songs! Kenshi Yonezu is one of the most successful singer-songwriters from Japan – his song ‘Lemon’ was named Song Of The Year by Billboard Japan for two years in a row, making him the first and only act to achieve this milestone. We don’t want to be basic, but ‘Lemon’ is our recommendation for you – we assure you that you’ll be sucked into Yonezu’s discography instantly after you listen!

KAZ, aka Kazumi Mitchell of the boy group INTERSECTION, is an upcoming artist that deserves your attention. The solo singer gained attention last year for his EP CODE LOVE, which included the dream-pop song ‘Drown’ ft. Hikari Mitsushima. His solo discography, while small, is incredibly diverse. From lo-fi rock and pop to trip-pop, KAZ is creating a unique style in J-Pop and we love it (not to mention his visuals)! To get you started with his music we would like to recommend the aforementioned ‘Drown’.

Rei Yasuda is a female popstar with a heavenly voice. The singer grew to popularity after voicing Lumi, the lead vocalist of the virtual music group Genki Rockets. She has performed several opening and ending theme songs for popular animes, including Ace Attorney and The Irregular at Magic High School. We would like to recommend her song ‘through the dark’ to bless your ears.

YOASOBI is one of the most widely-known Japanese acts at the moment, and the duo is known for making music from novels. They debuted after receiving an offer from the staff of Monogatary.com, a novel website operated by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, to collaborate on a project to create songs inspired by novels written on the website.
