Scream (2022)

With Scream (2022), almost 25 years after a string of brutal murders that shook the town of Woodsboro, a new killer resurfaces, taking on the Ghostface mask, and targets a group of young teens intending to revive deadly secrets.

The Scream franchise has always been a favorite film franchise among horror-comedy fans. While the first Scream film (1996) was a massive hit, sequels couldn’t quite capture the essence and spirit of the original. With that said, we think there is no doubt that Scream (2022) surprised us with its uniqueness, and it is well-executed and brimming with a sense of edginess, thrill, and entertainment. This franchise is known for spoofing the horror genre, sequels, trilogies, remakes, etc., and it didn’t hesitate to nod to its own past franchise films. It is bursting with goofy elements, surprising twists, recurring characters, familiar faces, and witty, snappy dialogues interspersed with moments that release the tension of guessing the killer.

Overall, Scream (2022) was a delight to watch, one that had us on the edge of our seats for most of the film.

Firestarter is an adaptation of Stephen King’s classic thriller of the same title, popularly known as the ‘King of Horror,’ as he is among the most famous and successful horror authors of all time. The film revolves around a girl exhibiting astonishing and uncontrollable pyrokinetic powers, an alleged psychic ability that enables a person to light and control fire by just thinking. Its genre-defying drama and harrowing suspense are unparalleled. The story follows Andy and Vick, a couple who took part in a secret government experiment and gained telekinetic powers. As their daughter, Charlie, grows older, she develops frightening pyrokinetic abilities, whose full potential is unknown. They have been on the run trying to hide Charlie from a shady government agency, ‘The Shop,’ intent on turning her abilities to create fire into weapons of mass destruction.

Quite a bit of drama surrounds Charlie’s struggle to control her powers and shield herself and her family from these mysterious agents. The audience will thus remain intrigued to discover the surprise elements during the climax. Two previous film adaptations received moderate success and criticism for their execution. However, the film plot is super intriguing, and since the book is one of our favorites, along with great casting, we are putting our money on this film as it looks promising, and we are eager to see how it turns out. We can’t wait for this exhilarating tale to unleash raucous and exploding action, chaos, suspense, thriller, horror, chills, and some jumpscares with heart-pounding thrills, all woven into a poignant storyline that is both entertaining and frightening.

Directed By: Keith Thomas
Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley, Michael Greyeyes, and Gloria Reuben.
In theaters and streaming only on Peacock from May 13.

Nope is a forthcoming highly-awaited American neo-Western science-fiction extensive horror epic built on the ardor of secrecy. Still confused? So far, little is known about the plot as it has been largely under wraps. Even the latest trailer is surprisingly tight-lipped, revealing little clues about the film plot but still enticing enough to pull the public to the theaters on the first day of release. Jordan’s previous works prove how he has revolutionized and transformed the modern horror genre; he often tackles social issues, like racism and systemic inequality, with a horror lens, and we can expect a similar approach this time around.

A trailer introduced us to two animal trainers who train horses on farms while dreaming of becoming professional horse handlers in Hollywood. But then, something strange happens on their ranch, something we are still trying to figure out. In a series of bizarre images, from agitated horses, UFOs, ghostly hands, and a burned-out woman, along with strange atmospheric phenomena, spooking the locals and causing unfortunate souls to ascend in the skies. But what does it mean? Is it really such a “bad miracle?” Could it be a UFO or alien abduction? Or perhaps a killer cloud? There must be something to spook us.

Even with all the suspense building, we are confident that “something terrible” will be transformed into a masterpiece that will captivate us. Despite being frightened, we are fascinated enough to watch the film while hiding behind our pillows. HEY, DON’T JUDGE US… I mean, we are b-brave…

Directed By: Jordan Peele
Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea
: In theaters from July 22.

Dark Harvest

Dark Harvest is another upcoming fantasy-horror film adapted from a novel by Norman Partridge. The film poster gives off the vibe of scary Halloween with a scary pumpkin and the autumnal view of a creepy farm. This story takes place in a Midwestern hamlet during the fall, centered around an elusive, legendary creature, “October Boy,” with supernatural powers. Every Halloween, the monster emerges from the cornfields to terrorize and attack the residents. But this time, Richie and Kelly will face overwhelming odds in their quest for freedom. This film sounds like an excellent addition to our Halloween film binge list this year, and we can’t wait to find out who hunts this cornfield legend or if they are in inescapable danger…. we’re not quite sure yet!

The film unfolds the struggles of the intriguing, charismatic and mysterious antihero coping with his disease, new life, and moral responsibilities dilemmas. Would you consider this a breakthrough, or is the evil darkness rising to the surface? Will good prevail and triumph over evil? Will Morbius cave to his new and mysterious urges, such as the thirst for blood?

The Black Phone

If you have been trying to reach The Black Phone, you will hear from it during the summertime of 2022. The Black Phone is an upcoming supernatural horror film adapted from a short story published in 2004 by Joe Hill. Ethan Hawke portrays the serial killer who abducts a child, Finney Shaw, and holds him captive in a soundproof basement with a disconnected phone, but is it really disconnected? Soon enough, Finney discovers that he can communicate with the past victims through the dead phone and devises a plan to escape with their help. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest and was well-received by critics. We are intrigued by the plotline of the horror film, and the poster alone is giving us creeps and hair-raising thrills and shivers that we might hesitate to sleep alone tonight.

Halloween Ends

Halloween Ends marks the third and final installment of the popular horror film franchise that brings the scary-filled saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode to a heart-pounding, gruesome conclusion. During the Halloween season, everyone deserves a good scare, right? With the release of this film later this year, we are sure that this year’s Halloween movie binge fest will be even more exciting.

The plot begins in and incorporates real-world events, including the global COVID-19 pandemic, and other bizarre events that twisted our lives during these past years- for a realistic touch. Our hearts were yearning for the answers to the questions we have been holding in our hearts since 2018, and now, we are super thrilled. But who will put an end to the reign of terror of Michael Myers? Do you know?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an upcoming slasher/horror film that is sure to keep you up all night by the end of it and leave you with goosebumps, shivers, and a rush of adrenaline. We’re not scaring you, but isn’t that what horror film fans desire? Sequel to the original movie from 1974, the story sets many decades after the original screenplay. The film surrounds the legendary serial killer Leatherface, with a mask of human skin, who returns after nearly 50 years in hiding. He targets and terrorizes a few idealistic young influencers and entrepreneurs, accidentally disrupting his secluded hiding place from the world. After their arrival, the deadly monster will begin slaughtering people again, unaware of a vengeful survivor who was returning to take down the deadly killer.

Fear is an upcoming horror film set to debut later this year that promises to send shivers down your spine. While not much is known about the film plot so far, the premise loosely revolves around a weekend getaway celebration that went horribly wrong and turned into a nightmare after a contagious airborne infection emerged in the vicinity. We are intrigued by the theme, which combines plenty of scope for exciting horror elements that will leave you stunned. As of now, it leaves us with a lot of questions, which we will be waiting for answers to.

The film, Unwelcome, coming to theaters in 2022, is another mystery/thriller and horror flick that will spice up your entertainment this year. We are very eager to watch it, and we will welcome it with open arms. (pun intended)

The buzz around this film is positive, and it appears to be very promising. The story revolves around two Londoners, Maya, and Jamie, who have fled the chaos of urban life to start fresh in the rural Ireland countryside. However, they didn’t realize they were getting caught up in tales of mysterious creatures and later discovering vicious, dangerous, and terrifying goblins lurking in the thick gnarled in their garden. The truth is, whether they get the help they need to escape this nightmare or continue living it, they will have a cost for their aid. Our interest is piqued, and we are eager to see how the story unfolds.

Hannah John-Kamen, Douglas Booth, Colm Meaney, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Kristian Nairn, Niamh Cusack, Rick Warden
