What do you get when you mix early 2000’s nostalgia with a current love for K-POP? In this case, you get a cover of Avril Lavigne’s ‘Sk8er Boi’ done by Tomorrow X Together’s youngest, Hueningkai.
Hueningkai has a unique voice and lends his signature style to this fun, nostalgic tune. Here is another article of ours that lists five reasons we are head over heels in love with him, from his incredible vocals to his charming confidence and sense of humor.

The song itself grew in popularity after its release in 2002 and has since become one of Avril Lavigne’s most iconic songs, her second-most streamed on Spotify after Complicated. The song has a spunky, pop-punk feel that brings us back to that era.
A fun little tidbit about this is that on February 16th, Hueningkai tweeted lyrics to the song with a photo of himself, and Avril even noticed it. This was before the cover’s release as a little spoiler, perhaps?
Covering this song, Hueningkai added some teen spirit and fun to it, showing us a different side of his voice that we do not see, proving that he is our Sk8er Boi. It isn’t the first cover from him or the group: his rendition of this iconic song joins the group’s solo and unit covers that include ‘Youngblood‘ (his other solo), Taehyun and Yeonjun’s ‘Stay,’ Taehyun’s ‘Over And Over Again,’ and Yeonjun’s ‘Song Cry.’ These songs span genres and show that this group can master just about any, further proving that they are the vocal kings of Gen Z.
As we approach Tomorrow X Together’s third debut anniversary next month, we can’t help but think about how impressive the global attention they have garnered is, both with fans and within the music industry. They got over 10 “Rookie of the Year” awards, sold out their 2019 six-stop debut showcase in the U.S., and their album The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE made it on Rolling Stone’s “The 50 best albums of 2021” as the only album by a Korean act to be there.
