Alec Benjamin learns to embrace his shadow self on ‘Shadow Of Mine,’ and we can’t get enough! Throughout the song, Alec goes through stages of coming to terms that he must accept his dark side, something we all need to do at some point.
In the beginning, he tries to run away from it by booking a flight to Texas, switching his addresses, and ghosting his friends. None of those things worked. So by the second verse of the song, he realized that it’s always with him. On the bridge, Alec realizes that no matter how hard he tries to fight it, he is bound to his darkness forever. The final chorus brings everything together, and he fully accepts his shadow self!
‘Shadow Of Mine’ is perfect for those on a self-love journey because, as we’ve come to find, the good and bad qualities that we have as people are what makes us unique, and no one is perfect.
The piano-heavy song sounds upbeat, but the subject matter of this song makes for the perfect dichotomy. While the instrumental is simple, it allows listeners to dive into the deeper meaning. ‘Shadow Of Mine’ will be on our playlists for many months to come!
