A Track-By-Track Look At Machine Gun Kelly’s lockdown sessions

Machine Gun Kelly recently dropped lockdown sessions, a new and improved EP of the “lockdown sessions” he posted on YouTube in early 2020! The song features three songs fans have already fallen in love with, in addition to some new twists. Ahead of the release of Mainstream Sellout, which drops on March 25th, MGK continues to prove haters wrong and delivers in his rap music. Let’s take a look at the three tracks.

‘roll the windows up’

‘roll the windows up,’ formerly known as ‘Smoke & Drive,’ is a fan favorite. MGK added a new verse along with a name change, and this version is better than ever! Sampling Mike Posner’s ‘Smoke and Drive,’ MGK raps about his high and how he’s been making music for a decade. “Holy sh*t, I’m so high, I just high-fived this holiness.” ’roll the windows up’ is the perfect song for a chill smoke session or a road trip. We can’t get enough of the second verse, it’ll stay on repeat!

‘pretty toxic revolver’

On ‘pretty toxic revolver,’ Kells takes us on a journey through his dark mind. Sampling Shawn Mendes’ ‘Mercy’ with additional rain sounds in the background, MGK sets the tone for a gloomy story about the pain he’s endured in his life. He raps about drug addiction, losing family members, and people loving someone only after they’re gone. On the chorus, he sings that these topics are weighing on his mind. ‘pretty toxic revolver’ is a song to be played when you’re up at night overthinking about life. While the lyrics are deep and sad, the instrumental is sure to bring you calmness.

‘in these walls’

MGK samples PVRIS’ ‘My House’ to talk about his former toxic relationship. He communicates this message perfectly before the chorus of the song: “King of the underworld, what a damn name, ’cause he killed all the other girls in the damn frame for a queen that he never realized had fangs.” ‘in these walls is unique because he uses PVRIS’ original chorus and harmonizes with Lynn Gunn. We can’t get enough!
