Weeekly Shows Us a Brand New Side With ‘Ven para’

Last year, Weeekly was on everyone’s playlists after they released one of the most iconic and loved K-Pop songs: ‘After School.’ While they’re highly known and loved for their bright and cute concepts, Weeekly can truly do it all and they’ve proven it better than ever with the release of their first single album and the title track, ‘Ven para.’ The second installment of the Play Game series, Play Game : AWAKE, shows a brand new side of them and proves how talented and versatile these girls are. This time Weeekly part ways from their usual cute concept, and take on the girl crush concept. And they absolutely killed it.

‘Ven para’

Weeekly’s first take on a girl crush concept is simply perfect. ‘Ven para’ is incredibly powerful and addicting. The vocals are over the top, the choreography is outstanding and the rap is incredible. The last part of the song is so full of energy and gives the song this unique strength. They simply served with this one. The aesthetics shown in the music video are also to die for, with incredible images and amazing styling for the girls. It also plays with the contrast between blue and red settings, reflecting the lyrics of the song about fire. It is incredibly well made in all aspects and they pull it off perfectly.

Play Game: AWAKE

This title track was released along with two incredible b-sides. ‘Solar’ is the perfect b-side to ‘Ven para.’ It is just as powerful and even more empowering. The build-up and the anti-drop make the song even more interesting, and give it a somewhat mysterious side too. And the vocals on this one are truly immaculate, in the pre-chorus but especially in the bridge and the ad-libs in the last chorus. The performance for it is also incredible and makes the song all the more powerful.

Meanwhile, ‘Where Is My Love?’ is a much chiller and laid-back song. It still keeps this more dark aura to it with its heavy R’n’B inspired beat. This last track is the perfect addition to the two more energic songs. It is sweet and easy to listen to. It shows yet again their versatility and how Weeekly can not only do it all, but they slay every single time.
