Florence + The Machine Usher In A New Era With Three Captivating New Singles

Four years after releasing their critically acclaimed album, High as Hope, our favorite cosmic musicians Florence + The Machine are back with new music! The band released three new songs within the past week: ‘King,’ ‘Heaven Is Here,’ and ‘My Love.’ Both ‘King’ and ‘Heaven Is Here’ are produced by Jack Antonoff, who’s known for his work with some of our faves like Taylor Swift and Lorde. In addition, Florence + The Machine have announced they will be releasing their fifth studio album, Dance Fever, on May 13th!

If you can’t tell, we’re so excited to get new music from Florence + The Machine! Let’s dive into these songs:

The first single from Dance Fever is centered around vocalist Florence Welch’s identity as an artist, womanhood, and how she is torn between the two. Welch opens the eerie, yet powerful, track by singing about discussing having children and her ambitions as an artist. ‘King’ also questions traditional gender roles in a way we can’t get enough of. The powerful chorus sees Welch establishing her identity: “I am no mother, I am no bride, I am King.”

‘Heaven Is Here’

The next track, ‘Heaven Is Here,’ is yet another testament to the musical brilliance of Florence + The Machine. Florence explained on Instagram that the song is the first she wrote while in lockdown, after not having access to a studio for a long time. In addition, Welch produced ‘Heaven Is Here’ with creating a contemporary dance moment in mind. And the music video, directed by Autumn de Wilde, brings the artistic qualities she envisioned for this song!

‘My Love’

The latest taste of Dance Fever started as an acoustic song, but once it reached Glass Animals’ frontman Dave Bayley, ‘My Love’ became the dance-pop track it is now. The song carries a lot of Florence + The Machine’s signature qualities, like howling mixed with disco-pop beats. Lyric-wise, ‘My Love’ isn’t just about romance – rather, the track demonstrates Welch’s love for her art.

We can’t wait to hear wait Florence + The Machine have been cooking up when Dance Fever is released on May 13th. Until then, we’ll be listening to these songs on repeat!
